I do think that it has amazing potential when you put it like that. A web browser would be a little unnecessary, however, live weather, weather maps, RSS feeds and all that good stuff would be very nice.

The BMW system does not operate while the car is moving, as soon as you stop at say, lights then then access is allowed again.
The WAP browser is quite nice, I've been using it a few times this week while waiting in the car, can read the latest news etc, |

Its a cool feature and all...being able to send maps to your car...but if youre gonna look up directions on google and send them to your car...whats the pont of getting a navi in the car?? haha
but i think its good though how BM is trying something new and still blending great technology with amazing cars.. |

I think the point is to tell your nav they way you want to go vs the way it thinks you should go. The nav system doesn't take into account the number of traffic lights, ease of a route, etc etc. I never follow the nav route blindly, without planning out the trip ahead of time. Thus the advantage of sending a route to your car from your pc. It's much easier to adjust the computer determined route on the pc than the Idrive.

They need to allow an EVDO enabled phone to act as modem while in the car just like it does for a computer.
We already pay for Internet access at home and on the phone. Do we have to pay for the same connection again in the car? They are trying to make money by doing something that is not as practical as a phone connection. The phone can already sync contact phone numbers, voice, etc. Now it needs to sync google maps, full contact lists with email, SMS, and MMS, and Internet access. Then they will have something. And a bet a dollar to a donut you cannot have the Internet access unless you pay a month fee for it and also have the BMW Assist module installed and pay the yearly assist fee. I doubt they will let you have Internet access by itself. Time will tell. But I know it won't work as well asmy Blackberry so I won't really care.

On my Mac, I can send any address that comes to me in an email directly to google maps. Then one click and, again, it's waiting for me when I get in the car. I use it all the time. It's an awesome function! Way better than the clunky process for entering an address into idrive. |
