BimmerLink Or Bimmercode
Hi,
As per title which app is the better of the two? (IOS) I understand I can code out the error that I am currently getting with a SOS malfunction (flat battery) common once the cold weather sets in I understand. Also what's the best Bluetooth OBD2 adapter to pair up to it? Or would it be better to just change the battery? After some research I believe the part no is 84102447710. I think the main stealers are asking around £60 for a gen battery but these can be purchased for £15+ off the usual sellers on the net. 2018 218i auto Swamps |

They are for different purposes: Bimmerlink is for viewing stats, errors and clearing codes and Biimercode is for coding: changing settings. For your purpose it sounds like you would need Bimmerlink. Both are from the same developer and there's a list of recommended adapters at https://bimmercode.app/adapters/

You don't "code out" a battery. You do "code" it if you change the size or type. But if you simply replace it (a new battery) with the same size & type...then there's no need to code any changes because you didn't change anything that requires a new code. You simply register the new battery to start a new baseline (which is done with Bimmerlink).

+1 to what everyone else has said so far!
BimmerLink will let you easily check the state of charge of your battery. So, if you fully charge your battery (with a charger), then you'll be able to monitor it w/ your driving habits. If you're getting an "increased discharge while stopped" error due to a parasitic drain, then it is likely that there will be a code stored telling you which circuit is involved (i.e. comfort access handles come to mind) - and BimmerLink will be able to retrieve stored BMW codes for you. I use the OBDLinkCX bluetooth reader. There are many others out there that work just fine. I like the OBDLinkCX because it has a low power mode (i.e. "sleep" so doesn't trip alarm) and it is very small & compact so I can leave it plugged in 24/7 and open up my BimmerLink Dashboard to check fluid temps, pressures, etc all very quickly. |
