Tesla drivers had highest accident rate, BMW drivers most DUIs study finds

KEY POINTS
With 24 accidents per 1,000 drivers during the period from mid-November 2022 to mid-November 2023, Tesla drivers clocked in with the worst accident rate in the U.S., according to a study by Lending Tree, ahead of Ram and Subaru drivers.

BMW drivers were the most likely to engage in driving under the influence, the researchers found, with 3 DUIs per 1,000 drivers in a year, about twice the rate of DUIs among Ram drivers, who were the second worst drivers in this regard.

Accidents, DUIs, speeding and other citations can all lead to higher insurance rates for drivers.

Like almost everything (especially EV related) in the media these days, I suspect politics is a significant factor in their conclusions.

Meanwhile, Pontiac (8.41), Mercury (8.96) and Saturn (9.13) were the only brands with fewer than 10.00 accidents per 1,000 drivers.

......Yea, cause there are hardly anymore still on the road.... 🤔

Well, the rates of accidents are for cars that are already on the road so that’s not relevant.

Hmm The more boring the car the less trouble you get in. Who knew?

BMW drivers stop driving drunk, you're making the rest of us look bad.

My neighbor tells me this joke every year.
Whats the difference between a BMW and a Porcupine?
BMWs have the pricks on the inside!

I’m guessing the Tesla “recall” relates to these accident rates.

yikes.

i can see it. young kids into cars gravitate towards rwd and turbo. they have these aspirational dreams of buying a 150k mile e92 335i and building it up to 700hp.

"Tesla" US footprint is primary in California.
It would be great to see raw numbers, or at least stats per state.

Majority of CA "vehicle operator" driving skills are ...

Hence, no surprise the Tesla brand is clear accident rate "winner" across entire US

Here is a link to the study report:

https://www.lendingtree.com/insuranc...cidents-study/

There is a break down by state. Interesting read.

Would be good to see it per mile driven, instead of per driver. Or rather, miles per accident.

I missed the statistics for how many BMW drivers were able to avoid an accident?
