Garage List
the plug-in hybrid is not available in the US since BMW says that customers are “satisfied” with the current ICE offerings and see no market for it.

Yea, at first I read the European announcement that they’ll only offer the 30 drive as a plugin hybrid. I got scared because I thought that’s a recipe for disaster in the USA. Americans still want ICE vehicles. Just watch Porsche sales tank when they discontinue their ICE Macan and only offer their newer electric version. Bad move for the USA.

I thought BMW has a mild hybrid 4 cylinders version for the U.S when the new X3 is on sale.

A mild-hybrid is an ICE vehicle.

Way heavier and complicated as a PHEV. Just give me an ICE or a BEV.

A huge minus for the plug in hybdrid as was in the last generation the battery is in the boot. Having such car with a so small boot is absurd. I was really hoping to be as it is in the X5 where you only lose the underfloor compartment.

One of the major news outlets said the PHEV is coming to the US later after release. Now I can't find it. I was really, really hoping for this option as the X5 is just a bit too big and way too expensive.

You can have both of those without a problem. Some people want a PHEV.

You can’t have both in a PHEV at this point without a weight penalty.

PHEV is great for many, need to be able to go long distance occasionally but use EV for every day trips is a great compromise.

I’ve got a current X3 M40, but the wife got a new X1 Hybrid it’s great. Around town way more responsive than mine, quick of the mark and super quiet, can get 500mpg over a month when charged at home overnight and she does 30miles ish a day to work and back.

She hates filling up and hasn’t needed to fill the car with fuel for months, it’s a great option. As with the new X3 only a little less storage now you still get a bit underfloor and when it’s warm 50miles on EV.

There is a place for a Hybrid and it’s a pretty good place until the infrastructure improves and the weight and cost of full EVs do.

yes...with a lithium ion battery added, if that's ok with each person. I'd prefer not.

Dude, what? I meant you can already buy an ICE X3 or many other electric BMWs. Let people other people want a PHEV X3. Your comments are pointless in this thread.

I will “let people other people want a PHEV X3”. Despite my power to shut this whole PHEV thing down, I will allow it.

I wouldn't mind a PHEV, it would make both my wife and I happy.
