Spare tire now standard. No more factory runflats?

I noticed that the space-saving spare is now standard equipment. Does this mean that the G45 no longer comes with runflats from the factory?

It’s the connector on the back of the front seat that lets you add stuff like a phone/tablet holder, coat hanger, laptop tray etc. been around for ages on other models.

They have moved the X1 away from runflats no models / combinations get them so maybe they have done the same with the X3?

That's fine with me. On the recent gen X3 we avoided a spare since that took up major rear cargo space with a raised floor. We just got the run-flats and then got rid of those immediately for regular tires.

I think the ride suffers too much from the stiff sidewalls and you can only do so much with the suspension.

Mmmm it all depends how they do things.

I've got an X3 M40 with 21" runflats, the wife a new get X1 with 19" non-run flats. Mine rides much better than hers does over low speed bumps by quite a margin. Some of that is adaptive vs none maybe but more to it than the tyre is only one factor.

I also have the 21” adaptive, and it rides much better that our other car with 18” Michelin Sport 4, which are non run flat normal suspension.

If you look at the X3 MY 2025 pricing guide on one of the threads here, run flats are not available even as a pay additional option (which does not make any sense to me). Maybe I am missing it. I hope.

Nope, it sounds like BMW is moving away from offering RFTs entirely. Others have pointed out that the X1 already did that in the US. So it seems the G45 is continuing the trend and also won't have RFTs as an option.

But I'm very happy that the donut is now integrated properly into the trunk, without lifting the surface.

That's a welcomed change.

Having a spare is useful, until you have more than one tyre fail late at night 30 miles from anywhere without phone signal.

Yeah, that. Or you don't have a safe place to change a tire.

How do you get to a safe location w/regular tires and no spare during an incident?

BMW has succumbed to the crowd but customers are paying the price. Regular tires are cheaper and the "savings" has more than paid for the included spare!

I've driven the past twelve years and never had an anxious moment over a flat with no spare. I've had several flat tires in that time.

Each use case is different. For my wife and I based on where we drive we have no problem with this particular risk.
