[QUOTE=avi66;31320275]Why do you think the G01 M40 got quieter ?

I don’t see why the LCI addition of the 48v mild hybrid, means that they had to code out the overrun when downshifting or upshifting from an environmental standpoint. You can have a stock catalytic converter that is within the legal parameters AND give us pops and bangs. The pre LCI models showed that. I did hear some real crackles when they revved the 2025 so we will see.

I guess it’s a preference thing. I even turn off the artificial engine sound ASD because it gets old real quick in an SUV.

Maybe I missed it, but what’s the verdict on the new G45’s in the USA having acoustical glass? I know there was some talk or suspicions about it, but nothing definite. Any definitive answer? And then does it include the front window and/or side windows?

Still a mystery. The closest thing to a "good idea" would be the measurements from the CarConfection guys in their review of the G45.

I know there’s been some talk about 0-60 times for the M50 G45, but I haven’t seen any actual 0-60 times for the 30 G45, which has 7 additional horsepower than the previous gen G01. Up until now, I’ve read that it should “be about the same” as the former gen, which was about 6 secs. Now that the model has been out for a while, I figured some auto reviewer would have verified that. Has anybody seen actual 0-60 times for the X3 30 G45?

Definitely gone.
Driven one without it.
Also, polish BMW dealer confirmed NO acoustic glass on Youtube - they claim the glass is now thicker so 'sound insulating'. Yet another marketing BS.

Yeah if the UK doesn't get it, we Yanks definitely not getting acoustic glass!

Marketing words are cheap, so it makes it easier to slash the cost of components/options on the G45, but make up for it in words and ambiguous claims.

Some examples of difference in replacement costs G45 v previous, as a rough relative guide to cost -

- Adaptive headlight unit around €1200 less per unit on the G45…..
- HK ALEV3 surround mid range speakers (excluding D pillar) around €50 less per speaker on G45 and same price as base ALEV2 units ….
- HK D pillar speakers now ALEV2 and around €200 less per unit on G45….
- Front side window G45 around €209 previous VSG ("Verbund Sicherheits Glas”) front acoustic side window €389….

The cost cutting is another level

Another review with high speed driving at 250km/h (155mph) on the German Autobahn.

Obiously he doesn't like the new interior at all but he is all about praising the drivetrain, suspension and handling of the M50.

Impressive how planted the car is at 250km/h and that it's over 3 seconds faster than the old X3 M40i when accelerating from 100km/h to 200km/h.

Interesting he mentions quite a bit of cabin wind noise even at regular highway speeds (14:22 time), and seems to feel the car has lost its nimbleness, and has moved more towards the X5. Also sometimes feels like it’s a bit “out of breath” during highway speed acceleration ….

I think he suggests the 3 Series Touring is “just a superior car in every way”, so maybe worth looking at for me.

The wing mirrors are known to cause some wind noise. But he is mentioning "quite a bit" of wind noise at 250km/h. He bever said "lots of cabin noise".
I can live with that At normal highway speeds I would just turn up the music a bit more.

No one in Europe outside Germany would be legally allowed to drive the car like he did on public roads. Especially not you guys in UK with all the speed cameras and the highway speed limit of 70mph you've got. So you shoudn't worry.... 20d is more than sufficient for UK.

And acceleration measurements speak another language than "out of breath" when it's actually 3 seconds faster at 100 to 200km/h than the G01 M40i.

P.S. If I'm looking for a SUV, I would never go to a 3 series touring.

“Quite a bit of wind noise…not just on the Autobahn but also on the regular highway in the Netherlands.” Like you say Netherland highway isn’t Autobahn speed.

He said what he said about “a bit out of breath” lol.

I’m just looking for something that’s still practical but doesn’t look and feel so cheap inside.
