The SQ5 looks sweet. Only ding I would give it is that passenger-side screen. Nice ext/int otherwise.

The passenger side screen is additional cost and not standard (I think).

i have loved modifying all my rides (see build threads below), but my next build will most likely be the new 2025 AUDI SQ5. i’m really loving their new design direction. both the exterior and interior designs are 10x better looking than the new X3 imo.

very sad to be leaving BMW. hopefully it will be short lived but we shall see. sorry for the rant and let me know your thoughts.

I’m almost there on this new sq5- it’s got a moonroof that opens- a steering wheel
Without a red stripe 😒- most of all the interior and power is close to an x3 finally.

I see your point on this

Too bad BMW fkd up design

Is it a good dual clutch? The DCT in the x1 makes me worried about all DCTs!

That being said- PDK at Porsche is perfect. So there is that.

The ZF8 is unmatched by any VW/Audi dual clutch DSG gearbox and I would rather accept design flaws than the lag of the VW DSG gearbox.

SO I'll look at the demo car at my BMW dealer as soon as it's there and might order a M50 X3 G45.
Why would Audi go DSG (dual clutch) and possibly jeopardize their bread and butter?

You need to ask them because all new Q5 is DSG only, no tiptronic on any version anymore.

My completely unsubstantiated guess is because DCT requires maintenance at ~30K miles. Money thrown in to keep the dealers happy. Same reason why Audi and Porsche don't (or didn't) have regen braking. My conspiracy theory is to accelerate brake wear and replacement. Otherwise, once EVs become mainstream, the dealers won't have anything to work on, other than warranty issues.

which dct requires 30k maint and what is it? do you know the model no. of the new dct that Audi will use?

also what regen braking are you talking about, what car models?

Regen braking causes component wear also.

let’s be little bit more specific vs writing general comments that don’t mean much.

Usually all DSG gearboxes require oil change latest every 60000km.

Only DSG that would fit the SQ5 V6 would be the DQ500. The smaller DQ381 is only rated for max 420Nm torque and the SQ5s V6 is putting out 550Nm.

The DQ500 was ok and without problems in my RS3, but like all DSGs accceleration has a little bit of lag

ok good info

is that lag from dsg shifting or turbo lag? is the lag there when shifting manually? some of it may be tuning

m-dct is pretty much lag free and gear changes are lightning fast so it will be interesting to compare

All the info necessary was in the post. If you don't understand it, that's on you to go google it and learn. I think it was clear when I mentioned EVs for regen braking. And no, it doesn't cause component wear in EVs. So take your own advice and comprehend before "writing general comments that don't mean much".

don’t want to derail the thread to ev’s but if you generate energy “something” is doing the work based on laws of physics thus those components are subject to wear (el motor, capacitors, resistors, cables, battery etc). also regen braking is not unique to ev’s.

back to our ice vehicles now …

If it’s like the PDK- we are all set.

If it’s closer to the Mini/BMW DCT- it won’t work.

100% agree ASAP

Just returned from a week spent touring colleges in Florida and put 1,400 miles on a brand new Q7 rental that was loaded. I didn’t like anything about it and couldn’t wait to get back in my M40i. The biggest disappointment was engine performance. My bernedoodle accelerates better.

Not a fan of light bars and no idea what the heck they are doing with the rear bumper design, but overall the new SQ5 isn't straight up offensive so it'll sell very well and be in my consideration set around the time it gets refreshed.

BMW is going to have a tougher time competing once many of us are out shopping for BEVs.

The powertrain/drivetrain advantages will go away and if the current design (2025 X3, iX, XM) stays on...

At least Audi is also copying the elongated display screen lol so possibly can rule them out too.

I'll be left with the Japanese manufacturers most likely, whose designs haven't really been inspiring of late either.

There is a good chance I will be jumping off the BMW ship as well. Went to BMW, looked at and drove the M50. I could almost get used to the design but it is still ugly to me. The sunroof not opening is a deal breaker for me. So it's going to be the X5 Hybrid, the SQ5 or the Macan.

I think the new bodystyle is going to be a 26 model. The 25's are on the site and look the same as the prior year.
