Negotiating below MSRP - SF Bay Area

Hi, I'm new here. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (San Jose). Hoping to join the BMW family with the 2025 X3.

I just began emailing the dealerships in my area for their factory order pricing. So far all the replies I've gotten say that they're only offering MSRP, with no discounts apart from BMW manufacturer incentives.

Before I start calling or showing up in person, I wanted to gather data from others who have placed orders in the same vicinity. Has anyone successfully negotiated a price below MSRP for the 2025 X3? If so, how much? And from which dealer, if you don't mind sharing?

I'm in the same boat with you. From San Jose too. I suggest to go out see in person, take a test drive before making decision. Don't be infatuated, prepare to bargain hard before buying. Edmunds suggests to pay 6% less. I will look around too. You don't need to buy in the Bay Area. Check out the Sacramento area too.

If either of you don't mind working with a broker, I have a Bay Area dealership and can get you a discount!

I need to see the SUV and take a test drive before I make a commitment.
I'll let you know.

SunshineJK myg45 I would like to ask did you manage to find a dealer with a price below MSRP in the Bay Area? I plan to order 2025 X5 50e later this year as my current lease is going to be due in April. Pls advise. Thanks!

I have not seen any at my local dealerships yet. I guess we will have to wait until mid-October to see the SUV on the lot. Edmunds suggests getting at least a 6% to 7% discount. I am not in a hurry, but would like to get a new vehicle by year's end. At this point, I see a lot of negative comments about this SUV. It would be my first BMW.

I am in Bay Area. There's a lot of local brokers on the social network.

I would certainly guess ~10% off MSRP of G45 is a reasonable starting point.

I contacted a broker back in April for a Y25 M4 custom order and got 7% off. The broker fee is ~$800. I think demand for G45 should be lower than G82, and any model on the dealer's lot is priced lower than custom order, so you can get a better deal.

10% off MSRP would be at or below invoice, no? Don't get your hopes up for that for the new gen of the best-selling BMW model in the USA.

Having said that, I'm sure there are deals to be had. Just be realistic.

I personally ordered my X3 M50 at MSRP, but that's because (a) I like my CA and don't mind letting him score a good win; and (b) I have the privileged position of not being particularly price sensitive at the X3's price range. Hopefully folks like me will help create room for other people to get their bargains.

I am not sure about what the invoice price is nowadays . Back in 2019 I got my G01 x3 m40i at 14% off and with incentives that's a total 18% off.

Right now I am seeing an ad from a broker of G45 X3 at 12-14% off. Not sure what trim it is and it's likely not custom ordered cars.

M50i model will not be the best selling trim apparently because most people got 30i. Any performance model is always less popular than the more base model.

Thanks @vrships for all the info. Like I said in previous post, I need to see it in person and test drive before I make a decision. I'm hoping for 7% off. I only get the basic one with blue exterior color and brown interior color. Right now, in Cargurus, they advertise for $55K plus for the SUV (with premium package). Do you think I can get $57K out of the door?

So you have to wait until any cars arrive in dealer's lot. But you don't have to pick the one you test-drove, right? Then waiti till all dealers got enough inventory and it's easier to talk down prices.

I am not sure about OOTD, but in general, other than the cash price after discount and incentives, there is $85 doc fee (CA regulated), ~1% gov related fees, and maybe another $100 processing fee, plus sales tax. Don't pay for any add-on packages unless you truly want itj.

I'm not in a hurry to buy the car, only when the deal is too good to pass. I would get the base model, the color I like and maybe the premium option (or just convenient option). I regret BMW does not offer emerald green color. It is my favorite color. The out of the door price would be the price you agree on plus 11% (which includes tax, license and all kinds of small fees). I agree not to pay too much for a SUV, because after all it's just utility.

That must be a US thing, because the new gen G45 is already at 12%-17% off MRSP here and in other parts of Europe.

Initial feedback is slow sales pushing up discount.

I love that 12%-17% off numbers. I think it could happen in Jan of 2025. By the time cars are on the dealer's lot, it will be around the Holiday time which is the time people would go shopping for new cars. I think dealers would like to see people's reaction before they make a concession.

Pricing strategies definitely vary by market. In the US, the invoice price is typically something like 9.5% below MSRP. Of course, dealers can still make a profit by selling a bit below invoice due to other factors like sales volume incentives. But the baseline here is definitely different from the UK and elsewhere.

Invoice is about 6.5% - 7% below MSRP depending on options.

Bay Area dealers are always firm on their prices, likely due to high demand. Over the past few years, I’ve purchased three of my cars from SoCal instead—prices were much lower, and there were more options available. Definitely worth considering!

May depend on timing and the series. Earlier this year the Bay Area dealers were giving the highest discounts in the country on the X5. In general they are considered to be one of the better discounting areas.
