Connected features free now - no more subscription?

Is BMW moving away from a subscription model? The connected features are no longer locked behind a paywall which is huge, considering that other brands (including Toyota, Mercedes, etc) are still charging a subscription.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a positive change in the industry and a move away from subscriptions. Subscriptions make sense for some cheap streaming service you use on a Walmart tablet, not a high end luxury or sports car.

The MyBMW app features (lock/unlock, check vehicle status, view parking location, etc) and anti-theft GPS tracking are free. Remote start is still a paid feature as is RTTI (though basic traffic info is free)

Received the same email for my 2017 M2. I had previously re-subscribed a couple years ago when they called it Connected Services, but I notice in this email they are now calling it Remote Services (for my model at least).

It's still Connected Services on the newer models. A week ago I got a BMW App notification asking if I was missing Connected Services on my 2022 X3 and asking me to re-subscribe. I wasn't because it was still working and the expiration is September 2025. BMW was only off a year. I wonder if they will extend it for newer models?

Also just got notified that Mazda will require subscription for it's remote services. Haven't paid up to date and it's off warranty (2021 model).

What email? I didn't receive one and I had to pay for a renewal few months ago.

EDIT: Just saw the attachment in the previous post.

Hope they let us use the idrive "App" for free as well? I only have the subscription so that I can use AAIDrive. Don't really care for real time traffic or things like that to be honest.

Did everyone get this email at once? My app is still saying remote start is a $330 option.

My car came with it without a subscription, so maybe that's why it's free via app now?
