X50 Winter Snow Tire Size Options

Just taking delivery of our new Brooklyn Grey X3 M50.

We’re dedicated snow drivers, and swap wheels/tires every winter. I was poking around Tire Rack, and given the staggered size (255/45 R20 Front, 285/40 R20 Rear), it was “call to discuss” only—they wouldn’t display any winter wheel/tire packages on the site.

I know it’s early days, but has anyone decided on or mounted dedicated snow tires yet? And if so, what size(s) are you running?

FWIW we traded in an older X5 that also had staggered wheels, but I bought a set of “all the same size” wheels and snows from Tire Rack, and they’ve given us years of great snow driving—and doubled the life of the summer run-flats the car came with. Thanks in advance for any insights.

What year was your X5 and how do you feel about moving to the new X3?

2017 or 2018? Wife’s car. It’s been awesome. We’ve driven the heck out of it for almost 120K miles and other than oil and tires…NOTHING. Nada. Just getting a little long in the tooth, so we felt time for a new ride. In the past 7 years or so, our needs have changed. No more kids to ferry around. Lost our dog last year So we didn’t feel like we needed the same size/space as the X5, and anyway the 2025 X3 has gotten bigger and while it’s not quite the same dimensions, it’s close enough and plenty for our purposes.

I’ve seen some carping about the interior. It feels at least as nice as our old X5, but modernized.

The biggest change is the relentless march of technology, and the all-screen interface in the new X3. I’m pretty tech-adept but I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot of automotive IT and remedial training for the next few months….

You can get a set of 19" with 245/50R19 all around.

This is what I would do and also did on my X3 G01.

In Europe BMW offers the following wheels as 19" winter tires:

Double Spoke 903
Y Spoke 1035

Rim size is 8,5x19 ET26.

I actually have a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks mounted on OZ aftermarket rims that I used for snow tires on our older X5. They’re 255/50 R19’s all around. Sounds like they’d fit like a glove! Thanks!

You need to check center bore and offset.

Tires are a bit larger so the actual speed will be off from what's displayed.
