Dash cam recommendations?

You guys install dash cam? Or enough with drive recorder?

If someone wanna install dash cam can we share which one is good?

Also can I do manually install(connecting to fuse) for parking record?

I think looks like too hard 😂

I don't know if it is still available or if you already received your G45, but I chose the Advanced Car Eye option from BMW for my G01 build that was installed by their technicians at the VPC across the street from Spartanburg. It has worked extremely well and the installation appears flawless. It has two units, one for the windshield and one that mounts on the liftgate glass for rearward view and recording.

I installed a Thinkware u3000 with an external battery for when it’s parked. It seems to do a good job. The app is eh. The rear camera is a bit larger then I was expecting as it has the radar sensor in it.

Viofo A229 Pro on my G87 and it works pretty well. BMWs are pretty selective and sensitive to voltage draws, this dash cam has features like low voltage parking mode and time limit (that I set to 2h max, which is around the time when I finish a meal or an errand etc.) So far the iDrive seems pretty happy about it. And the sensor on this thing at night is unreal, super clear for reading the license plate and surroundings.

I was trying to install dash cam by myself for recording when parked, but there is not enough YouTube video about installation ex: location of fuse box, etc..
I think it because just released new model.

Hmm.. if only use driving record, is dash cam has any value over the drive recorder..?

BMW Drive Recorder only captures video to storage when automatically or manually triggered when the engine is running. However, it uses a buffer to capture video for a number of seconds before the trigger. I’m not sure if ID9 has changed any of this.

A typical dashcam records video in 1 minute segments continuously, until the storage is full, at which point it overwrites, unless the segment/s are protected. Hence, whatever it captures is recorded, irrespective of a trigger event, providing it is powered and in recoding mode.

Parking mode is more complex and there are numerous options to capture video, whilst minimising power usage. Some parking modes cause issues with BMW power management, due to parasitic power drain. Hence the use of external batteries.

I have this one too that was previously installed in my last vehicle. I was going to sell it since the x3 has the recorder but now I’m second guessing it. Did you have any problems installing and trying to run/hide all of the wires?

I know it has the built in drive recorder but I always like to have backup. I had a U1000 installed in my prior Lexus and thanks to it, it paid for a nice junk of the X3

I have no idea about the installation process. I had the shop where my PPF install it. They do PPF and all the car electronics stuff. I had them also install ALPs and my radar detector. There is a fuse box in the trunk by the indent on the right where the small netting is.

How do you like the U3000? I have to play with the settings. Since I park in a parking garage it constantly recording people walking by. I also need to lower the impact settings because when I close my doors it acts like an impact happened.

Good to know about the installation at PPF shop. I go back next week to get a check up on mine so I'll ask about it. I honestly didn't mess with my dashcam very much after it was installed but when I did it was great aside from trying to scan through the video to see who damaged my car while it was parked. I'll probably keep it if I can get it installed by shop at a reasonable price.
