M50 Exhaust Question

"The engine’s spirited power development is accompanied by the
emotionally engaging note from a four-pipe exhaust gas system that
also turns heads stylistically: the twin tailpipes integrated into the left
and right of the rear apron are an unmistakable, M-specific nod to the
position of the new BMW X3 M50 xDrive at the top of the X3 model
range’s performance rankings. The distinctive soundtrack from the flapcontrolled exhaust gas system is channelled into the interior with great
authenticity via the audio system. All of which turns up the intensity of
the M-typical performance experience to a new level."

I read this on bmwusa.... checked my M50 exhaust and there are no flaps, both pipes are free all the way from tip to engine. Sounds great, I am just shocked and now curious if anyone else can validate?

That means the BMW "Iconic Sounds" can be played through the audio system. This audio can be turned on and off via the screen menus.

When looking up the spare parts for the M50 there is actually 3 different end mufflers.

2 have no valve and 1 version has a valve on the LH pipe.

Unfortunately the partnumbers are not listed yet, but it seems to depend on the market and I bet we Europeans get the flap version.

Im sure we can over come this by removing a certain fuse like the G01 🙏

I’ve had my M50 a month. Got under it last night and there is no valve on either tailpipe so they must have really hidden it well deep inside the muffler or put it further forward on the midpipes for some reason

On the one version with the valve it's on the end of the lefhand tailpipe right in front of the exhaust tips. Item 11 in the picture is the electric motor for the valve.

I'm in Canada and there's no flap either. It sounds really good from the outside. However, if you turn off the Iconic Sounds, there's no exhaust note from the outside.
