BMW system is good for fixed speed camera, but crowd sourced is the only way for popup cameras.

I use BMW for primary navigation and CarPlay WAZE in the background for audio alerts for police, camera, accident, breakdowns etc.

I used to use the BMW safety camera software with my X5 but can't find it anywhere for the X3

I don’t know about G45, but on the G01 it was activated via UK BMW Connected Drive, and is a subscription based feature.

Once the subscription is active, the safety camera option appears in the iD7 apps screen.

Thanks AVI but there is no sign of it being available for the G45. Perhaps later.

I’m not sure if it works in the same way with iD9, but seems like an odd safety omission, especially given maps is cloud based in iD9.

One option is to use WAZE via CarPlay for alerts, which I assume you can still run simultaneously in iD9 with BMW system as primary foreground nav.

I have spoken to customer support re the safety cameras and am told that the X3 does not have the hardware to support this feature. Shame that.

Seriously ?

Surely that can’t be right, as it’s just GPS/map based data using an app.

What hardware is needed apart from idrive ?

No idea but he seemed very competent and spent quite a bit of time on it. I would agree with you though.

That would be a backward step if it turns out to be true.

I wonder if it’s cost cutting related ?

I used to use a Cheetah Speed Camera device but with no 12v supply in the front 'bin' that also looks to be tricky. Cable access to the supply in the 'cubby' not easy and the only other is in the boot.

Just use WAZE, either as your primary nav, or secondary CarPlay in the background.

I’m not a fan of WAZE nav, but I use its audio alerts in addition to BMW nav.
