Sunroof failure

A friend of my wife also has a new 2025 x3. She had entered the I87 interstate in upstate NY and suddenly the glass sunroof shattered. She immediately took it to Keeler BMW in Albany where they gave her a loaner. This could have caused a catastropic accident but luckily not.

Has anyone else with a 2025 x3 had this happen?

Maybe a stone hit the roof.

Been seen many times on a glass roof vehicle. Rock of surprising little size is kicked up from the roadway and hits it just right

Vehicles flex and twist all the time. Maybe there’s not enough wiggle room built into the fixed glass design. Whereas a movable glass has a track and perhaps more room for play. Just a thought.

Is the non movable glass roof on the 25 x3 not laminated to prevent total shattering like the windshield?

In what manner did it shatter, how much of it shattered, how big are the shards, and what do the shards look like?
