Tucker Max: "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" - Best book ever.
This guy is brilliant. Funniest book ever. Period.
This website provides plenty of stories from his book, "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell", and they deserve a quick read (especially the one labeled "The Austin Road Trip"...it's kinda long so skip down to "Day 2"...that's the funnier part). Please give 'em a read, you'll thank yourself for it. *WARNING: This book contains mature content and whatnot, so if you're easily offended I suggest you pass... Holy shit, that day 3 is something...I was laughing hysterically. I know that feeling of when you are about to shit your pants, you finally are getting to the bathroom and clinch, just about to get your pants off huddled over the toilet and you have just milliseconds before your body uncontrollably releases.....gotta be lightening quick with the boxers.

I agree his stuff is funny, but does anybody really believe those stories are true.
Can't find the link right now, but I recall he was on some radio show a year or so ago and they called him out on his BS stories. |

It's funny stuff as a work of fiction, I'm in the BS crowd as for the authenticity of the stories, I'm sure some crazy stuff happened, but it reeks of some creative embellishment.
Still kind of funny in a college kind of way. -BMW2006 |

It was Opie & Anthony; they thoroughly outed him on their XM show. It started off as a standard plug segment for his book, but unfortunately for him O&A figured out his schtick during the interview and went in for the kill. I heard it live and it was downright painful listening to TM stammer his way through one line of lame BS after another.

There is a video of it on the O&A webpage. If you think listening to it gave him away, you should see the faces Tucker was making. I have been a HUGE Tucker Max fan for as long as I can remember, but seeing him on O&A absolutely confirmed that the guy bullshits 90% of what he writes.
However, as an aspiring writer myself, I will admit to looking at the Tucker Max stories for stylistic inspiration. He writes like a stand up comic, setting up the story, and then delivering the punch line with one sentence, or one word. He is brilliant at what he does. Quote:

His parents actually owned a restaurant in the town I am from. It went out of business because they went all wacko with the food. It used to have really good normal food, but then they tried to move it way up market and started charging exorbitant prices for fancy schmanzy stuff. They only have one location now in Boca Raton, and I took a look at the menu and they seemed to have toned it back down a bit.
