Job Market

Been seeing the job market in the NYC area shrink lately. Currently looking for new employment - my current job has flatlined and i have no room for advancement. A friend of mine works for a very large company that i've done business with before and is in my industry, however its in Vermont. Moving away from NYC doesnt bother me as much as making the decision to uproot. I always wanted to go experience other parts of the country, just not sure now is the right time...

Same pay, better benefits, better hours, better work environment and opportunity to advance and cheaper lifestyle.

would you move and take the new job? :iono:

Your not alone.... I was a Car Salesman for Mazda and bc of the economy and market one of our locations shut down and a month ago they laid off like 15 of us out of 25 and I was one of them.. Good thing I hae a second job makn decent money.. got an interview with United Health Insurance this Wed.. Hopefully I get it. As for moving to take a new job... its good to do sometimes, but just make sure its a serious job that you can be at for a long time and make sure your not going to have to risk leaving people or anything that you realllly care about I think thats the hardest part for most people.. and be sure you have a place to stay where your going.. I thought about doing that but... I decided I have to much going on in my life right now to move a whole day in distance from where all my life is... I wish you luck in everything!!!!

I've been around long enough to know that there are no certainties in life. There's no saying that you might not be downsized either in your current position or whatever position you might move to. However, assuming perfect knowledge of both positions, you are better off in the one that offers you a way to grow.

Since perfect knowledge is basically a myth though, it's a crapshoot. You just have to go with your gut and take a calculated risk. No one ever got really successful and rich by playing it safe, but plenty of people probably stayed pretty comfortable by doing it that way. Push yourself, but don't go too crazy. It's a balancing act...

Good luck.

Its tough to say since it depends on your industry and your experience level. From what i've seen there are still many college graduates from good schools without jobs.

i would take a job in VT in a heart beat

But i love to ski and love snow

Also keep in mind the standard of living there is MUCH cheaper...
you rent will 1/4 of what u are paying now

I have lived in manhatten for 2 years now and spent most of my college days in the city working as well during summers. I am kind of out growing the area...

I say go for it man!
