Vacation Time??? Burning it now?
I'm off from 12/18 - 1/4. Anybody else burning leftover vacation time, in a use-it-or-lose-it company? (wish we could cash it in)

I'm not burning time I would lose otherwise, but I took 6 days off which will give me 16 days in a row with no work. Today is my last day, and I won't be back until 1/05/09.
It's the only time of the year I can do that, so I'm taking it. That leaves me with 9 vacation days to get me through until the end of Spetember, but I've got a feeling with the economic downturn going on I'm going to get more time off this summer than I want anyway. |

Last year, because of things I had to get done at work, I lost 3 weeks of vacation. Didn't want that to happen now, so I'm officially in slouch mode.

Been working long enough for 6 weeks vacation.
No more left this year since I used it for ED, a trip to Montana, Watkins Glen and worked 3 day weeks for several months. Retirement is next on the horizon. |

I'm too depressed to calculate how many days I have to lose. It's not that many, but it stinks that you feel penalized for working hard. I'm off for most of the Christmas-New Years week so I just hope we get some unseasonably warm weather so I can wash the baby.

My days do carry over but I was only awarded a weeks paid vacation after my first year, 4 sick days, and one personal. So technically 2 weeks automatically given to me on the day I was there for a year. I won't be getting any days again until February after I'm there for 2 years. They won't be given to me but rather they are accrued throughout the year. Once I'm there for 3 years I get 2 weeks paid vacation, 4 sick days, and a personal day. Which will come in handy for a trip to Italy in 2010 I am currently planning! So I am only taking January 2nd to make it a four day weekend, and saving the rest for a nice LONG trip to Italy.

My company is doing a mandatory shut down the week of Dec. 29. It's a smart move so they don't have to do layoffs. It'll save the company $1 billion dollars. It goes against our vacation days, but I have plenty. So, 11 days off including the weekends!!!
