i can understand trimming the fat, but i just don't see the viability of chrysler as successful brand from here on. |

Anybody think they seem to be acting in a rapid manner for the sake of not looking like they arent trying while full of taxpayer money?
They arent going to accomplish much with less dealers in the critical short term.

Both GM and Chrysler had way too many dealers chasing too few customers. They're legacies from when the Big Three were the only game in town and towns were way more isolated than they are today. I would imagine that Ford would also like to shed some dealers, but because of the laws protecting dealers, it's almost impossible to do it unless you're in bancrupcy.
The appropriate number of dealers is probably something more in line with what the Japanese companies have. This was a no-brainer and will definitely help make them more competitive.

My uncle owned a Hummer dealership which he sold last year and he currently owns a GM dealership in Oakland, Ca and one in Hawaii and he was telling my dad that GM is not warning the "soon to be closed" dealerships before hand, instead their sending letters out and if you receive one it means you're done.
And it's sad to see what Chrysler has become. The only good news is no Chrysler dealership closures in Canada (so far). |

80% of Chrysler slaes are with their top 1200 dealerships. Getting rid of their worst 800 will not dent much of their sales but will reduce their expenses.
