is the sti worth the extra prem. over wrx?
i have not driven eithe of the new gen Subs.
For those who has driven can you tell me if the prem. is worth over the wrx? I know it's about 35hp more and better suspension and stuff here and there. but would like to hear from someone who has driven both and give me input. kind regards, RJ |

Driveline is different. I think that is worth a great deal if modding is in your future. As a former WRX owner, with a Very highly modified car, I should have gone the STI route for the upgraded driveline alone. The cost of PPG gears, Variable Tranny, BBS wheels and Brembos more than offsets the difference in my mind. Yes a WRX is capable but you start pushing it and it expensive shit starts to break. I went through differentials, gears within 1 year of a modified car. I know I would not have had that problem with an STI.

My friend who tracks a lot drove both the WRX and STi, previous generation, and mentioned that there was a major difference in performance if you like to actually turn the car. Too bad I can't get in touch with him right now.

Check on NASIOC and IWSTI and you should get the details. If you don’t plan to mod it much and it’s just a fun daily driver then the WRX should be fine. The STI is about more than just a bump in power over the WRX, the engine’s are a tad different along with the suspension, brakes, exterior, interior and center differentials.

Yes, it's worth it imo. It just comes with better components such as brakes, transmission, clutch, suspension, turbo, etc. I like the more aggressive styling too. Adding similar components to bring a WRX up to STi specs would likely bring you well over the price of an STi. Then the WRX warranty will probably be voided.
However, the WRX is still a great car and value! It's kind of like asking whether the extra price of an M3 over a 335/135 is worth it (of course, this price variance is much greater!). The gap in straight-line performance can be narrowed but there's just so much more to it than that. |

I just picked up a used '08 STi a couple weeks ago...
You can also think of the new STi as a "wide-body WRX" in addition to what others have stated. The fenders are much wider with a wider track...

Many drivers won't see a huge difference between the two while driving on the street, as they don't have the ability to push either car to their limits; however, if taken to the track, you'll most definitely see (and feel) the difference. Also, if you drive in the snow, the STi is worth its weight in gold over the WRX. One acronym: DCCD.
