For the pilots out there........

As some may know already, I go to Embry Riddle so I can eventually join the airline industry. I got my Private Pilots License last year in my freshmen year and going for my Multi-Engine add on this semester. Riddle is replacing their Piper Seminole fleet to the new Diamond DA42-360L( not really a new plane, but just a new engine). Which was why I went to go for my multi add on now instead of going for my instrument rating. Because the Diamond has the glass cockpit I am used to from the Cessna C172S I was trained on. Unfortunately, the Diamonds haven't been certified by the US yet( yay gov't bureaucracy????) and am now forced to start out with the Seminoles that had the old round dial style cockpit.

Anybody out there know how good of a plane the Seminole is? Is it hard to transition to the round dials? Not looking forward to transitioning to the DA42 mid course.........

i have tons of hours in seminoles...they're great twin trainers, although the diamonds are much better planes overall. (i have about 100 hours in DA-20's) i did most of my flight training at ATP flight school, which uses the seminoles as a work horse. are you telling me that you have no round dial experience? although i much prefer glass, you need to know round dials, too.

ERAU 2006 professional aeronautics graduate here. i was at extended campus though.

Yeah, I have zero round dial experience. The C172S with the glass cockpit was my first time flying a plane.

The L360s were approved, so were the Austros earlier this month. I would assume Riddle should be getting the aircraft soon! And whats wrong with the few diesels you guys have left you could start on those aircraft as well.

Riddle have the aircraft, but they haven't been US certified yet( since they came from Canada). Riddle got rid of the older DA42's last year in favor of the Seminoles because the engine manufacture went out of business( I also have heard the DA42's were maintenance hell). And this year, they are getting the Twin Star's back since they have the same engine as their Cessna fleet has now.

Glass is an easy transition. In the airline/aircraft business, you'll be upgrading all the time. Just look at it as more experience.
