How driving to tahoe is similar to ..
Dante's travels through the 3 realms of the dead.
1) as you get into the snowy regions, the traffic locks up creating an eery red glow, as if you're approaching the gates of hell. 2) The Caltrans checkpoint where they check if you have AWD , chains, or nothing is like limbo, where you wait to be judged. 3) You are judged by the cal trans people like Minos judges souls. a) Having AWD means you are not judged and free to procede up the mountain. b) Having chains is like being condemned a passive sinner, you are placed into one of the first 4 circles of Hell, punished for not having AWD! Their punishment of course, is to pull over, get out of their car, and freeze their butts off while putting on their chains. c) Having nothing is the worst of sins, being sent to the lowest rings of Hell to be tormented forever! aka, told to turn back because you are not equipped to go any further towards your destination. 4) past the Caltrans check point, your Drive up the mountain path is like making your way through Purgatory. You must drive throught it at a paintfully slow speed, repenting for all of your sins and making your way through the Terraces of Purgatory as you slowly ascend towards heaven. 5) Finally getting to the ski resort is like reaching heaven. Your skiing/boarding experience is only limited to how much you allow yourself to experience. disclaimer: i don't claim to know this stuff well and I'm probably getting a lot of it wrong, but this IS the lighter side of E90post! feel free to post your own take on it

haha that's pretty good. I just came back from Tahoe- Heavenly yesterday. They required chains even though there wasnt any snow on the roads. So basically we had to put on the chains just to pass the check point.

It's where the Chain patrol were. It was about 20-30 mins before you enter the town. They basically required that you need chains or else you cant pass. |
