How come BMW dropped the 'C' in coupe?

is it me or are the 2007 coupe's now without the 'C' as in 'Ci'? the 05's have them....is this a new marketing strategy or did they just forget?

yea they did, the heads got together and thought it would be funny to drop the designation so that us forum people would have no way to describe our cars without either saying 335 coupe or e92 335

Im somewhat glad they decided to simplify it...I remember the day when you could have a 325xit . It had just as many letters as it did numbers...

It really doesnt matter to me. Im going to debadge my E92 328 for a cleaner look, and much easier to maintain when washing and waxing...

All the Ci would do was create more work for me...

by the way... why do we even need the 'i'??? Why not just say the 335 instead of 335i.

The only thing I think it would effect would be the 7 series and distinguishing between the regular wheelbase and long wheelbase models... 750 L just sounds wierd...

think they still need the "i" to destinate between their fuel injected models and diesel models ("d").

there's also "h" for hydrogen.

BMW used "c" because both the sedan and coupe models have only one model code (eg-E46). Now that the sedan (e90) and coupe (e92) have different model codes, it's no longer necessary to use the "c" on the coupe.

actually that makes alot of sense since, as i recall, the e92 from ground up has a totally different foundation than the e90. before the e9x models, the 3 series sedans and coupes only differed in the number of doors they had so they were all e46

It should really be the 330ti and 330tci...

it doesn't actually have a 3.5 litre engine, but a 3.0 turbo injected engine

or 330ttcis

I would rather prefer 435i.

Doesn't that number look different as hell?

true, but then it makes even less sense that 2 distinctly different autos get exactly the same name designation on the boot!

Good question.

BMW likes to keep styling minimalistic and simple in general, a stark contrast from Ford with its old Merkur XR4Ti, or Toyota's trend of using the rear of the car as a billboard for emblems: V8, AWD, PreRunner, PostRunner, MidRunner, whatever.

Mine is "j". It burns jet fuel only. It's a bitch planning for long trips and finding a station.

Imagine what the army has to go through since all their M1A2s run on jet fuel too!

The differences (other than the doors obviously) are in the sheet metal. The underpinnings are the same between e90 and e92 and e93.

i think it was also part of bmw's original plan for the coupe to be rebadged as the 4 series. that idea was dropped.
