Preach away about mercury PPM while you chomp away on meat and poultry that was raised on GMO corn and treated with hormones... irony. Oh wait, I bet you actually believe the Whole Foods hype.

This is why the rest of the world hates America, we angrily try to push our values on everyone else while we do the exact same thing we tell others they should not. We look like ignorant hypocrites. Good job solidifying that perception, cowboy.

It's hysterical that people from country that dropped two nukes on Japanese cities full of civilians now have the balls to preach from the moral high ground about what is and is not good for the children of Japan.

1- I do not shop at whole foods, nor give a shit about what they say.
2- I do not know much about hormones in meat, nor do I pretend to.
3- This thread is not a place for you to preach on the American meat market, it is about a documentary. No need to derail it with your own agenda.
4- It is not about American values. It is about scientific fact of one of the most common and dangerous types of poisoning out there.
5- Did you really just bring an event from 60-70 years ago into this?

Amen brother!!!!

BTW...the reason why there is high mercury in the dolphin population is because of pollutions

To everyone who thinks all documentaries are all one sided and fake, you need to watch this one to believe what is going on in Japan.

There is no way this was set up and fake, i believe it 100%.

I used to laugh, even as a kid, when they would tell us to only buy dolphin-safe tuna. So it's ok to slaughter thousands upon thousands of tuna at a time but if a dolphin gets in there it's considered sad and an outrage? Tuna need to learn how to play volleyball or swim backwards on their tails... apparently it's a real lifesaver.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'd like to see the proportions of dolphins killed to the total dolphin population compared to that of tuna's. That would paint a more objective picture of the situation

I actually am vegan (3.5 years).

I think (some) people do care about cows/pigs/chickens. It's just that the cruelty towards these animals is well known & documented. Cruelty on this scale toward dolphins is new to most people.

Plus, picking something like dolphins, toward which we can be sympathetic might lead people to ask how it is any different than we treat other animals.

Dude. They didn't mean porpoise dolphin. This is a huge urban legend. They meant Dolphin/Mahi-Mahi/Dorado. It is all the same fish, but name changes depending on where you catch it. So, yet again people, know what you are talking about. Below is a picture of the dolphin you are speaking of.

Calm yourself... everything I've read so far points to you being completely wrong.

From Wiki:
Quote:
Background

Dolphins are a common bycatch in tuna fisheries, especially in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean, as dolphins in this area can often be found swimming together with schools of tuna, specifically yellowfin tuna. Not only do the dolphins end up as accidental bycatch, the dolphins themselves may also be used as a way to find the tuna as they are easier to spot, this also because the dolphins usually swim closer to the surface. The dolphins are then sometimes knowingly being netted together with the fish.

Skipjack tuna do not associate with dolphins, and so is most likely to be truly "dolphin safe".[1] The species of tuna is not always mentioned on the can.
Also, here's the label for dolphin safe tuna:

The dolphin safe tag doesn't mean quite what you are thinking. It means the method used to catch the fish will not accidentally catch or harm dolphins in the process. Not that it doesn't contain the meat.

The following is an example of "dolphin-safe" below that is an example of the fish being caught as a byproduct of tuna.

"Various fishing methods, most notably purse seine fishing for tuna and the use of drift and gill nets, unintentionally kill many dolphins."

Clover, Charles. (2004). The End of the Line: How overfishing is changing the world and what we eat. Ebury Press, London.. ISBN 0-09-189780-7.

It is the method not meat content they are talking about. Here is a comment on the meat byproduct.

"-mahi is also a popular eating fish in Australia, usually caught and sold as a by-product by tuna and swordfish commercial fishing operators.

Japan and Hawaii are significant consumers. The Arabian Sea, particularly the coast of Oman, also has mahi-mahi. At first, mahi-mahi were mostly bycatch (incidental catch) in the tuna/swordfish longline fishery. Now they are sought by commercial fishermen on their own merits."

Gonna try to watch this documentary later tonight.

On a side note, a friend told me the other week that chicken feed is actually made up of chicken bones and stuff..... pretty disgusted hearing that. I still eat chicken fwiw.

I don't recall ever saying anything to the contrary... You went off basically saying that I was an idiot for thinking they meant porpoise dolphins and I refuted that. You literally said that I don't know what I'm talking about when it seems as though I was pretty spot on about them largely meaning dolphin-dolphin and not mahi-mahi. I am well aware that they mean the fishing method and my initial post was made in jest.

I also enjoy mahi mahi on a fairly regular basis... it's delicious.

It is delicious, and looking back you are correct, and I read too quickly. I am sick of the morons I have encountered saying that if you eat tuna you are eating flipper, caused me to jump the gun. And Mahi is delicious haha. I was fishing in cabo, caught a bunch and a famous sushi chef at the Palmilla prepared it for us when we got back to the hotel.
