Need Help: is anyone here a doctor?
I came down with something like the flu last Wednesday. I've had severe chills and aches. At times these have been so bad that I wanted to go to the hospital. I've been spitting up an enormous amount of phlegm that's greenish yellow in color. I'm also a little queasy and can't really make myself eat. I've lost about 10lbs since this started.
I've gone to a medi-center twice. They tested for mono (negative), strept (negative), and the flu (negative). They also did a chest x-ray and they said my lungs were clear. Should I trust the validity of those tests? Should I go to a hospital and have bloodwork done? Any idea what I migh have? The medi-center prescribed me a Z pack. A little while after taking my first dose I hacked up an enormous amount of phlegm.

Try the z-pack... but it's important that you've got to take alllllllll the pills at the right times or it doesn't work. Then, if you are still sick then go to a pulmonary specialist.
I had something similar two years ago. Over the span of 4-5 weeks I went to (2) separate urgent cares + (1) ER visit all testing for everything and it all came out negative. They wouldn't even give me any antibiotics claiming that I didn't have an infection... even though I was hacking up shit all the time. Even coughed so hard at one point that I broke a rib (hence the ER visit because I thought I was dying from the pain). Went to a pulmonary doctor on the 4th week of this and she got me fixed up... The problem was that I had whatever it was for so long that I developed adult onset asthma, which isn't fun at all. It's a mild case so it can be treated with an inhaler, but I've got fucking asthma now because of no less than 6 incompetent people who saw me before I got a real diagnosis. Go to a specialist man... go now. Quit posting on e90post. |

Don't listen to anything anyone tells you online and go to the hospital.
Obama fixed your healthcare, right? No problem! seriously, don't ask medical advice online....

It sounds like the first stages of Hypochondriasis, you should go to the ER as soon as possible. All of your symptoms sounds exactly like this! Make sure you tell the ER nurse that you believe you may have caught this.

You could be right! TS, make sure you don't infect anybody! Wrap yourself in plastic bags before you go out the house!

Which hospital did you go to? Was it a small, local one? Or did you go to one of the more major trauma centers?

I went to a medi-center. Guys, I've never been this sick and I'm scared. I don't know any specialists around here (I don't even have a GP). I guess I'll drive up to Mayo if I'm not doing better by the end of the day.

Go find an Urgent Care Unit, what kind of insurance do you have? HMO? PPO? Call your provider and see what it takes to get you to a specialist. Most likely, you need to visit a GP and get referred.
Health is important.

You are actually in the beginning stages of ghonosyphiliherpaids. 3 shots of wild turkey and a gallon of vinegar should do the trick. Wear a jimmy-hat next time.

We have a couple of different choices when it comes to care. If the problem isn't severe (such as a cold or chronic headache) then you can make an appointment with your primary physician which may be able to see you that day or within a few days. If it is more severe, such as a lot vomiting or a broken bone, etc. you can go to an urgent care center which is like a lite version of an emergency room. They can't perform full fledged surgeries. When I had a hole put through my lip I went to a urgent care center and they stitched me up. For the really serious injuries you usually go to an emergency room at a hospital.

Just checking in on the OP to see if he might have died. Hypochondriasis is becoming a real killer
