Canada's kinda a big country, can you narrow it down a bit on where they're going. Are they staying in Ottawa? Are they driving or flying?

Agreed - Montreal is one of the best short trips/long weekend things to do from NY in the summer. Great town and very attractive women.

Lots to do and see in Ottawa. Mid 50s they would likely be interested in museums and such.

Some ideas.

1. Canadian Parliament / Peace tower. (Daily changing of the guard in summer)
2. Museum of Nature
3. Museum of Civilization
4. Bank of Canada Currency Museum
5. Canada Science and Technology Museum
6. National Gallery of Canada
7. Diefenbunker Canada's Cold War Museum
8. ByWard Market

wow thanks guys for all the help. we planned our final route today and will be going to montreal & ottowa, going to acadia national park in maine, making another pit stop in maine for some lobster and comming home.

PS: do you guys know if a US license is valid to drive in canada? i read that canadian driver liencese are legal in US but am wondering if this goes both ways?

also when using credit cards in canada, how do the credit companies charge us? simply by converting or will i be hit with extra hidden charges & fees?

Yes your license is valid in Canada as a tourist. remember when the sign says 110 it is in km/h ;-)

Use your credit card as normal. You will see the conversion on your monthly statement.

Yes, a US license is valid.
Remember a radar-detector is illegal in Ontario and Quebec, so leave that at home.

Credit card use is fine, usually the exchange rate for the day the transaction posts to your account (sometimes a day or two after the actual purchase) is the rate that's used. But since the US $ and Canadian $ don't fluctuate that much I wouldn't worry about it.

Go to tripadvisor.com and search for the location where they're gonna be. I used that for the trip to Jamaica and it was very helpful.

quebec = cheap ass alcohol
ontario = no so much

idk how old you are but drinking age in que is 18 and its 19 in ontario.

funny to have a house on the border and see kids running across the road to the liquor store and back all day long.

check out the upper Ottawa valley. long road but theres a lot of nice shit up there. montreals cool and theres some nice wealth in toronto.

as for ottawa itself, besides the airport and business downtown (east) the rest of the city is a shithole. lots of public housing and bums everywhere.

hey guys, thanks for the advice. i just got home yesterday at 1am.

360 Tower: the views were simply amazing. we got there in the evening so the lights were all up. the food wasn't so bad but the price was really expensive for the small meal i got . the view itself was very well worth it though.

Ottowa: we explored the 1000 islands took the boat tour and also toured the house on the heart island that was never completed. explored the city near there as well. 1000 islands was very relaxing.

Montreal: this place was nice. if you can imagine manhattan minus all the fat chicks and thats what you have. everyone was very well dressed and the girls were all skinny and very pretty . gotta go there with some friends sometime and hit up the night life. we explored montreal through a tour which was suprisingly good as we got a funny bus driver. we also explored the underground city which was simply great on its own.

Maine: comming from montreal to maine i discovered one amazing road, completely secluded in the mountains comming down and only saw 2 people the entire trip. make sure you fill up on gas though before going in as there were no gas stations the entire path, kinda scary. the roads were nicely paved but once it got dark shit was kinda scary but the bends omg were amazing. i was driving with a smile for 1 hour, the path was like 60 miles in the secluded mountains going up and down elevation. acadia park was the shit here though. only regret was we didn't bring a tent, etc to stay here longer so many things to do. cadillac mountain was amazing. after this we stopped by for some maine lobster which they said had less cholestrol then chicken and beef, im assuming its because of the water they come from?

all in all it was a great trip with the family, away from the busy everday life. but shit i gotta hit up montreal again with friends . thanks for the help guys once again.

2 things i hated were the high tax & i couldn't find 93 octane anywhere highest was 91. is that the highest in canada?
