Just curious, because I did not really like the long clutch when I drove it, but I see a lot of S4 lovers/owners on this BMW board.

I used to own a B7 S4. It was not bad. It was easy to drive, easy to shift.

I test drove it and I liked it more than on my 335. Smoother all around. If I recall correctly the clutch was a little on the light side for my taste though.

light clutch, a bit sloppy of a shifter, but very easy to drive daily.

audi manuals are smooth and easy, like a honda -- very easy to shift!

The manual on the new B8 S4 is quite good in my opinion. The clutch is lighter than my 330i was but I like that in traffic. The shifter itself is smoother and less rubbery than the BMW as well. Overall, I prefer it. Steering feel is a little better on the BMW though. Overall smoking car... as much as I loved my 330i you have to give it to Audi on the B8 S4... it really is impressive.

While not quite the same..my friend just got a 2011 A4 and shifting on that is way ahead of my BMW. The steering on the BMW w/ ZSP is better though. I've driven a 2001 S4 and the throws are ridiculously long and didn't like it.

Was fine after I threw a JHM short shift kit on it. Had Neuspeed before too. A little bit notchy, but overall was acceptable.

Also had a B7 S4 and loved it. Much nicer interior than my 3-series but i like the bimmers exterior more. But a very fun and easy car to drive! Much lighter steering than the bmw but not as good of brakes.

My old Audi always had stiff shifters....then again compared to my honda's. You can't force them you have to shift slowly.

Their manuals are nice enough shifters as long as you don't try and rush a shift too quickly, otherwise you will occasionally get a grinding of gears. Smooth and steady is the best method.

I miss the sound of my B7 S4. 335 sounds terrible in comparison. I should have gone for the S5.
