Reliable, safe, comfy beater car for $5000 or less
Thinking up ideas for a comfortable beater car that is dead nuts reliable (so no BMW) , safe, and comfortable.
I'm thinking a mid 90s Lexus LS400. It'll cost the same as a mid 90s honda/toyota shit car, since those have gone up in price in recent years. It'll be a lot nicer too. I've seen then for 2-6 grand depending on condition, owners, and miles. Anything else I should be looking at? This car does NOT need to be fun, fast, nor handle decently. It will be a plushy, safe, and reliable toaster. Thanks guys |

2G GS300/GS400.
2003 Infiniti G35 (Dead reliable also fun to handle and easy to mod ) 1G SC300/SC430 (Fun easy to mod) If you get a LS400 you can VIP it out. Check out Clublexus.com for more info on the Lexus cars. All those cars should be reliable and the plus factor is they can be modded easily and are pretty fast. |

Yup. for a soft comfy reliable beater, you can't beat the Lexus littern for the price.. I have a 90's version myself.

gf just bought a 2000 nissan maxima for quite a bit less than 5k. car has 75k miles. everything works great. brought it to a shop to get it throughly inspected and had the tranny and engine oil changed. only thing it needed was new belts and new light bulbs cos one of them was out and a new alignment.
its a pretty big car with lots of space. very comfortable for 4 people (unlike my m3). and the engine makes decent power. enough to make daily driving pleasant. no weird rattles or anything like that. suspension is pretty supple.

his point is he doesnt want something vanilla. he wants something he won't hate being in but that won't cost a fortune. i know people with lexus's with 150k+ on them and still haven't had a single issue

My "beater" is a 1990 BMW 735 I bought for $1700...<<knock on wood>> but I have taken it on a few roadtrips now (Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Geneva) and had no issues...the ride is plush, great storage room for luggage, and my buds dont complain about being too cramped in the back seat.
