We have an office pool at work for the lottery. We all signed an agreement that everyone that has signed the agreement at the beginning of the year is in till the end of the year, regardless if they have paid for the current draw or not.
We keep a spreadsheet of where everyone has paid to, so there is no hassle. This way, nobody will ever miss out.

so are you saying that if this policy was in place at said persons place of employment, said person would receive a % of winnings based on how many times they played? that is ridiculous. if you dont participate one week, you dont/cant win. |

Nonono... nothing like that. We basically all decided that we all want to be in for the full year. We wrote up a contract and all signed it for the 2011 year. This way if someone is on vacation for a month and we win, when they come back they will get paid their share. Everyone has to pay for the full year. If someone decides that they want out, we make a new contract and have everyone left sign it. This way if you forget to pay for 1 week or are a week behind you dont lose out. Most guys just pay $50-60 lump sum payments to keep ahead of the draws. We keep track of everyones payments on a spreadsheet to make sure everyone is paid up. This will eliminate any problems with people saying they were in the lottery group buy and just didnt get a chance to pay for that week. This is a no bs way to split up the money if we win.

This. Unless the guy was a total douche bag, I'd see if we all couldn't pitch in to give him some. Not a full share, but there's so much going around that you could throw him a bone as a group.

ESPECIALLY since he was feeling unlucky.. I'm sure he'd feel even worse. It would be nice if the other dudes in the group all gave a bit to him, considering a "bit" is still probably more than enough.

Sure wouldn't! Although, that feeling of what if would probably drive me off the wall for some time.
Chances are, he would had if he won... No, seriously. So many people who fall into wealth like this end up worthless (Figuratively and monetarily). Kinda an interesting read I dug up... http://www.oddee.com/item_97101.aspx |

read some of the other articles, sounds like there was about 6 people or so who didn't go in that week that normally did. With that in mind, winners take it and I wouldn't look back. Maybe give a few bucks back, but certainly not a mill.
