Walmart..ftw
Nah i usually hit up something like Kenneth Cole, Zara, or outlets for Hugo Boss, etc. Some of those MWH places have kind of more old fashion suits...if you're over 40 though i guess that's ok. |

thanks guys for all the help, seriously this is like one of few posts that really mattered in ot . i did end up shopping around everywhere from mwh to nordstorm, Hart Shaffner Marx, even the macys which is connected to the nordstorm and is a high end mall so they had pretty nice stuff also.
i only needed 1 suit for the interview and i ended up buying a canali suit from the nordstorm rack for $400 and since tailoring is free if you buy in store, i got the 33" length trimmed to the 30" i need. interview went great and im 99.9% sure im in for the summer . i owe the guy that got me in big time and plan on getting him something and the guy that interviwed me today wants to meet again next week over lunch. once everything is said and done and im in, ill be working 5 days of the week. it is summer so when i buy more suits technically i can just buy without jacket right? so for a 5 day work schedule i already got 1 new suit i bought in gray, i should get 2 more pants, 3 shirts, 3 ties, and a pair of brown shoes (already got black pair)? ill be looking into the edmonds, but any other shoe companies you guys recommend?

I remember the suggestion that you should buy one suit more than the days you're gonna be in the office. So if you're going to be working 5 days, you should have 6 suits. That way you can rotate your suits (make them last longer). Also when one of them are at the cleaner you will have enough suits to cover you for the week as well as not making it look like you're wearing the same suits over and over.

you're in NY, so go to Syms in the city and plan to spend some time there. you can find amazing designer suits at 25% of the original retail cost but you have to work for it.
i work for a TV show that is very wardrobe-heavy, esp on upscale menswear. our lead actors typically do wear fresh designer suits from Paul Smith, Hugo Boss, Brooks Bros, etc. but many of the supporting cast and background wear last year's stuff from Syms. you may not get the wow factor but i doubt that most businesses are looking for an overt narcissist. also, try Zara if you want a cheaper suit that looks polished and has a European cut. i find that MW has tons of baggy raver pants suits. |

Macys always has pretty good deals.. Nordstrom rack is alright as well.. No matter where you get the suit, make sure it fits well. A $200 suit that fits you well is going to look way better than a $600 suit that doesn't.. Look for slim fit, and make sure you are getting the right size.. most people think that they are a size bigger. Most places you go to will measure you for under $20 or even free.
And +1 on the shoes.. |

For summer, get light colored linen suits! You will still look fly and the fabric is amazing - very lightweight, breathable, cool, and comfortable. Wrinkles easily, but who cares?
Idk about you guys but I love wearing suits.

Reposting this in this thread, as it seems to come up often enough.

the price isnt great but I always love stuff from Theory. I'm pretty skinny so it's one of the few brands that doesn't make me feel swallowed in formal wear. Just got nice taupe cotton suit from Theory at Barney's for $650.
