Can't pay their bills but always have enough money for liquor, smokes, the newest cell phone, & money to get your hair & nails did. Not shocked.

Decided yesterday that I'm going to spend $300 of my stimulus. I'm going to get a quieter garage door opener. Currently have a Chamberlain screw-drive. This thing is ridiculously loud. As spring continues, I've noticed that due to how my home sits atop the hill, after 2:00 pm the sun shines directly into the photo-eye preventing the door from closing. I have to get out of my car, grab the keyfob door opener, stand between the sun and the photo-eye and then press the button to make the door go down.

So how do you solve that? Mine does the same in the summer from 9:00 AM to noon. Super annoying. In a past house I took the 2 eyes and mounted them to a board, facing each other, then threw that whole POS up into the rafters.

I tried placing a piece of opaque, flat stock delrin in front of the eye in order to block the sun, but oddly enough, that didn't work. I have a buddy that installs garage doors/openers. The way he explained it to me is that one eye shoots a beam of light and the other eye receives said beam of light. If the eye that receives light is getting slapped in the face with sunlight, obviously the eye can't see the beam as the sunlight is brighter. He suggested to swap sides of the eyes.

Ahh, that's brilliant. I'm going to give that a shot today

I have the Chamberlain belt drive. Super smooth and quiet which is nice as our livingroom is directly above. Have had it for about 8 years. Trouble free. No complaints other than that eye thing but sounds like that's not really its fault.

Nothing a paper cup can't solve. Punch a hole in the bottom and stick it on the lens.
