I’ve had cars for 40 years and have never had a dash covered in crap. If you need a shelf for your burger or mayo sandwich , don’t put it on the dash.
Seat fabric is tightly woven and not usually knitted (as per BMW’s description), which has a different hollow type texture. The other options appear be base textured plastic or Sensatec covered.

Crap can be dust, insects, and other stuff that floats into the car and settles on the surfaces, so I wasn’t thinking burgers etc. The door cards get rain and finger marks etc. Sunscreen is a pita if it gets on this kinda stuff. I find this build up on the dash after a relatively short time.

Again, to me it just seems that not much thought was given to the practicality of the materials. Some looks cheap to start with, and things like fabric and piano black in higher interaction areas is a recipe for it looking even worse over a short time.

What was the msrp?

I think the Macan S is in another level over the x3. Less room in the cabin but a bit more special.

Again silly as it is- opening sunroof- more conventional styling (not a huge fan of the .3 trim around it’s face but it’s not terrible.

Are they building more ICE 2025? Maybe I need to get on this…

Stopped by a dealer yesterday and took some pics in more colors since I haven’t seen as many real world pics on an overcast day.

The white ones are a side by side of a 30 and a M50.

Also included a pic of the illuminated grille during the day (on/off).

The car in the pic is one of (3) currently on the lot at United BMW Alpharetta, GA. They all have that dash material.

Yes, but this just means the dealer chose to configure it that way. The fabric dash is a standalone $350 option. Its not part of the standard features, nor is it included in any of the packages (Convenience, Premium, M Sport Pro, etc). No one is ever "forced" to take the fabric dash.

Correct, like this in the UK too. £450 over here.

Waiting on the G65 to see what that looks like. My current Cayenne S build is north of $140k so of course would welcome any discount I can get.

In the UK it appears the M package option automatically forces the dash with the weird stitching as standard across all seat coverings. The xLine model dash is textured plastic across all seat coverings as standard.

So on the M50 it’s a dash with weird stitching as standard or £450 for knitted recycled polyester fabric.

I went from BMW, to Porsche, and after 2.5 years came back to BMW. Porsche experience/ownership neither offended nor excited me and, if anything, was a bit underwhelming. Definitely nothing special about it, IMHO. No regrets leaving Porsche for BMW.

Eek gads, don't ever have a sneeze in the front seat with that woven fabric dash- looks a damn nightmare to have a proper clean. What were they thinking?

Perhaps they have stock in Black and Decker which manufactures the new dash cleaning tool.

Was just reading this UK review from Parker’s which comments on the fabric dash. Clearly not a fan of the fabric….

“ while the X3’s interior might sound rather impressive, there’s one element that lets the side down – the quality, which is particularly surprising for a BMW. The area around the electric window switches feels particularly cheap, and the strip below the touchscreen is low-rent, too. You can also choose a fabric ‘Luxury Instrument Panel’ for £450 that somehow feels cheaper than the standard leather-effect material. We’d strongly advise against this. ”

Is the standard dash wrapped in sensatec/leatherette or just plain soft plastic?

Went to see the dealer's demo G45 M50 today. Exterior design was "meh" but would not prevent me from leasing or buying. Interior was another matter. Really looks and feels a whole class below the G01. Hard plastic all over - center console, lower dash, glove box, etc. The "lump" on the front door (contains the door opener, memory setting, locks) is really low end, flimsy. The interior was a two tone Veganza and really had a strong vinyl smell. Very unlike the Veganza in the G60. No door sill trim, and also no bright trim on the dead pedal (left of brake). This is an M-related vechicle - what a cheap a** thing to do. The dash and door caps were just covered in black Veganza, also lloked cheap compared to the Sensatec used in G01. And around back, the floor of the load deck is higher (to accommodate the spare tire), and with the roof being lower, the vertical cargo space is compromised. But apparently this was made up by the the increased length. Cheap carpet of course.

Still need to drive it, but no rush. My M40i will do me fine for quite a while. Bought it off lease and have extended warranty. Perhaps BMWs new design team can do something about the current tragic interiors for the G60, G45 with the respective LCIs.

Will be anxious to hear other opinions.

Per BMW website, the "knitted texture" dash / door top material is made of "POLYESTER"... I hope it is not like wool or cotton! Polyester can be wash with damp cloth, same as Veganza seat... also vacuum or clean with Swiffer sweeper.

It was almost $93,000. Yes, it's another level up from an X3 - at least if you want a Macan S or GTS. The Macan T would be closer to the price of a X3 M50 but more likely to be over $77,000 especially if you want to get some good options added such as air suspension or PTV+. The build quality and materials are fantastic and the smell from the leather interior is intoxicating.

2025 X3

I’ve been patiently waiting for the G45 and having read a lot of comments about the interior quality, I’m second guessing purchasing one next year. Has anyone thought of a Genesis GV70? Have been reviewing the face-lifted 2025 in Korea and I’m impressed! Just not sure about the reliability and wonder if I should lease one and hope the LCI G45 improves on the interior. Had read that given the G45 was in development during COVID and parts shortages, they de contented the car.

For those who were able to sit in the new X3, how does it compare to the X1/X2? Got to sit in a new X2 last month and was extremely impressed with the interior especially at the price point. Is the X3 a downgrade from that?
