I was looking for a new X1 to compare it to during my visit. They didn't have any available to see. With the current recall/stop sale for the 5s, 7s, and i believe some X5 models - their inventory is highly impacted.

Definitely test drive the GV70 yourself before you decide. I drove both the 2.5T and 3.5T trim levels of the GV70, and the driving experience couldn't hold a candle to the X3 M40i. The Genesis leans way more towards comfort than sporty.

We call a spade a spade.
Not really a tough crowd, just different tastes and quality perception. Possibly the reason historically BMW UK makes some items standard or an option here on some models, that are not even offered in other markets. Maybe some markets are happy with any old crap, and the bar is set pretty low with the G45. |

In the UK this is what we get - XLine is textured plastic dash across all seat material options. M Sport pack adds Sensatec covered with the weird stitching across all seat options. The “Luxury Fabric Dash” made or recycled polyester is a cost option. |

Sat in M50 today. Here are my observations
The good + Car looks really good from outside. I really liked the exterior especially the headlights and taillights. + The interior looks quite modern and futuristic. Personally I’m in favor of fewer buttons, but don’t prefer “no buttons” either. This is a good mix of both worlds. + Loved the center console and infotainment! Feels premium and clean. + The interaction bar wasn’t a distraction at all in outdoor setting (I saw the car in natural daylight). If anything the center console felt premium because to that. + The steering was really hefty, and felt good in hands. + The sports seats are amazing and super comfortable. I didn’t expect that! You have controls for seat bolsters too. + Rear seats are quite spacious too. Though they are a bit firm when compared to front seats, but they felt firm in a good way. They are definitely angled well for better posture. Not sure how comfortable they would be during long drives though. + I personally loved the vent direction controls. They felt sturdy and made of high quality. I liked the design too. You would have good amount of resistance when using them to give you a sense of heftiness to it. + The rear cup holders have a mat at the bottom (similar to the “jewelry box”) which made it feel more coherent and premium. + Front and rear cup holders are adaptive, and feel like they would hold up in the long run. + The trunk is huge! The bad - I’m glad I didn’t go for the cloth/fabric dash. It is very harsh to touch, and makes me wonder how it’ll hold up and what a nightmare it’ll be to clean! Wouldn’t recommend anyone to get that. Not sure what were the designers smoking when they decided “this will give a more premium feel”. (Also, adds Mini vibes) - The door buttons (window buttons) are made of extremely poor quality. I’m pretty certain they won’t hold up in the long run. Even a Chevrolet has better and softer “window buttons” when compared to X3!!! This is a major turn off for me! So much so that this made me wonder if this was an error, or a problem with production! I’ve actually sent an email to BMW about this! (Haven’t heard back obviously) - The door handles are also of plastic, while they aren’t premium in feel, they aren’t as bad as the window buttons! I’m sure anyone buying an X3 would get used to them and could easily ignore them. - The island in front with lock/unlock button along the fan control is a mixed bag. The whole plastic moves if you press!! Which doesn’t make any sense at all! Made me wonder if it’ll fall off after few months or in 1-2 years. It is an area of high interaction and should have been designed better. - As emergency lights/hazard lights are built into interaction bar, it took me a few tries to turn them on. While not a real issue, jut wanted to call out that it may take getting used to. Hope this is helpful! |

I feel like BMW is an easier ownership. Loved my service adviser at Porsche. But BMW just feels easier over all. More cars in service too- I was either always in a Macan or taycans (EV doesn’t sell well in north east). Couldn’t complain about the Taycan. Awesome rental.

In terms of premium look and feel material, yes, it’s a downgrade. According to some journalist/BMW executive interaction, BMW were forced to cut cost, and the G45 interior is sub par because of that, and not ideally where BMW wanted it to be.

Porsche is having a laugh at BMW right now. The G90, this and the XM make me want to kick the design team in the groin. Feels like BMW let someone with that Game of Thrones final season type of brain suddenly start making all design decisions. Take something nearly perfect, universally liked and turn it into something repulsive. Why? |

My local BMW dealer in Switzerland had an unveiling event for the BMW X3 last weekend. They showed the hybrid model in Brooklyn Grey and with the m sport pack (unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take pictures). These were my initial impressions:
- the car looks longer and lower than the current X3. It was under a sheet before the reveal and the shape looked more like a station wagon than a SUV - in the flesh, it’s got real presence and the wide haunches and long bonnet give the design an appealing sense of power (at least to my eyes) - the interior mimics the monolithic exterior design insofar as it is pared down and focuses on a few key elements (the steering wheel, multimedia screen, and what BMW call the ‘jewellery box’ (ie the key tray / cup holders)) rather than having lots of little design details. The dash design comes across as more individualistic and much more contemporary than the current model. Yes, there are fewer premium materials than previously but everything seems chunky and substantial, and the seats and steering wheel seem like a step up in terms of quality and design - I wasn’t too bothered by the plastic door handles as their design seems in keeping with the overall interior design. The door panels containing the window switches and the switches themselves, however, do feel very cheap. It wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me but they are disappointingly poor quality. And I don’t understand why BMW couldn’t spend just a little more money to put a metal edge on the window switches or offer a design upgrade as an option - the other thing that struck me is that the dash is very upright and shallow and, with the multimedia screen right in front of you, it feels like you have to peer over a small wall to see through the windscreen. It’s also difficult to see the edges of the long bonnet so it will be a tricky car to manoeuvre in tight parking spaces |
