I hope the owner had a finger on the 'tazer' button!

Had a panicked moment last night. Left the dogs with my folks for a couple hours while we took a friend up on her offer to swim in her pool. It was 108 yesterday so we couldn't say no! Since the power was out at our house we were staying with my folks anyway. So seemed like an easy thing to just slip out for a few hours while they watched the dogs. Got back around 9:00 and found my parents searching for Bella. She was last seen about an hour prior. They couldn't recall if she has followed them outside when they ducked out to water the plants. So here we are with a 15 year old, mostly deaf, mostly blind, dog who may have slipped outside in 100+ degree heat. Oh, she also wasnt wearing a collar. I frantically searched the yard which is large and has tons of bushes to hide in. My wife set about searching every room of their 4000 sqft house.

After 30 minutes of panicked searching my wife found her happily asleep in a duffel bag. She was really well camouflaged. Notice she posted up under the AC vent! Oh, and Sophie is posing there like she helped. She was worthless. Just followed us around while we searched, offering no assistance what so ever.

Onslow is suffering from a hot spot between his front toes. To prevent the bad boy from licking it, he has two fancy collars, the traditional E-collar & the new inflatable "donut" type.

I hate those e-collars. My cat had to have one because of a hot spot between her legs. That thing is hell for her. We folded the e-collar back so she could eat. Then when she was done we put it back in the 'normal' position. We then went about our business. She ended up vomiting. Got vomit all over the collar. Then she went to the cat box and got cat sand mixed with the vomit. Poor baby. It made her sick. Thank god for steroids.

Yours is a sweet baby, Murf.

The e-collars are hell! Onslow figured out how to stretch his arm out & then bend the plastic cone against his arm & the ground, & thus lick his bad toes.
Both collars are XL!!!

Poor babies. How do your Samoyeds do in the summer with all that fur? I would imagine not too good.

Samoyeds do hate summer, but somehow they survive. They do have a few things going for them:
-The white reflects the sun.
-The coat is so thick they have their own micro-climate in there. They can carry a lot of air conditioner temp with them when out on a walk.
-They have very large veins in their legs to pump blood to keep the feet from freezing in the winter. In the summer when they stand in cold water, the reverse happens, cooling the body.

But they hate the summer.

Today is one of the worst days ever, my budgie Pietry had closed his eyes forever after 15 years and 7 months. That is a very long period for such a small tiny animal, but we had enjoyed every day and it breaks just my heart to stand in front of his empty cage with the knowing that he never would be heard again.
I have to take a break and pause a few days.
