Kindof my point. Saying I am up $XX is kindof meaningless.

My buddy is up over 20mil, started with 200k since March. Day trading full time and makes very risky plays. High risk, high reward I guess. I don’t have a stomach for moves like that.

Been a while since I posted here. It's been a crazy ride and what I will say is that for every winner in the short term stock market gain there are hundreds of losers. If I exited every position I have in the morning I am up 26% since April but there was a point when I was up 220%. Should have bailed out then. I am slowly exiting out and plan to do so until I am out of all short term trades in my TDA account. All my long term retirement money is in a 401k and that will remain. Manually trading stocks is a complete crap shoot for me. Been entertaining though but as I get busier with the job that pays the bills I have less time to spend waiting on and watching stocks looking for an exit.

Doesn't sound like it's a worthwhile value proposition but I'll give your buddy 50K and enter into a contract with him for half the returns, I'll take 100% of the risk too. Some kind of proof of prior returns would be required.

My employer was paying a 12.5% match (if I put in 5%) up until July. Because of COVID, they dropped the match for everyone who survived the ~14% staff layoff the month before.....

Probably 85% match up to like 3% of your contribution or some bullshit lol. No company matches 85% to the max IRS limit, and I'm almost positive unless he proves me wrong. I know since I work for one of the companies who has the highest known 401k match in the country, for every dollar you put in till max.

Maybe they meant that they contribute 85% of their salary to their 401k contribution?

Are they above the 12.5% contribution that I was getting if I put in 5%? Just curious about how our pre-COVID rate compares against the alleged top match in the country, in case I need to re-negotiate once COVID is over.....

Don't get ahead of yourself - that said 85% of ELIGIBLE compensation. Not 85% of your salary.

Your eligible compensation could be 2% or 3% or something low like that. How about you prove that component too!

I deleted my pics fyi, here's the glassdoor link proving it's 85% of contributions. I've also worked here for a decade so I'm aware of the rules.

I looked it up since I was curious, and there is a 401k plan handbook from your job posted on google from the early 2000s which says " your employer gives a matching contribution equal to 50% of your elected deferral". I'm assuming after all these years it's 85% now but that's still not dollar for dollar.
