Thanks! We will never have two pups so close to age, too much heartache around the same time. The dogs are huge in our life as we don't have any children. Our two other dogs we spaced out, 1 yr and 5 yrs.

We had our kitty put down late yesterday. We adopted her 18 wonderful years ago, and she was 2 years old when we took her from the animal rescue shelter. She was diagnosed with early stage renal failure 19 months ago. She did quite well for much longer than I would've guessed, but it really accelerated the last few days. We had to do this for her "sister" only 7 months ago. I started digging a second grave this morning. At this juncture I feel loss, sadness and relief. We have one kitty left, a stray we adopted last December and he's a great. Very well mannered, blended into our family well and was a real gentleman around our departed kitty. Couldn't ask for a better cat.

Sorry for you loss as well. I did want to update, our old lady wound up passing in her sleep peacefully next to us the night before her appointment. Couldn't have asked for a better way and was how I hoped it would go. She was always such a fuss free dog even in the end. My wife and I have still been having a hard time with her being gone since she was with us since we were just teens. My father actually came over to help me dig for her to be buried, said his parents didn't help him when he was only 10 and his dog died. My dad isn't an emotional kind of person since he came from a strict military family but that sure meant the world to me. I'm hoping you are doing well with your loss, it's a tough one for sure! Luckily our other two are only 5 years and less than a year. |

Tribute to Zanjeer, a hero dog who saved hundreds of lives as a bomb sniffing K9. (Lots of stories on the Internet)
Zanjeer died on November 16, 2000 at the age of 8, from bone cancer and was given a full military funeral. He is remembered every year in a special ceremony. |

We are thinking about possibly a white shepherd for the next dog we get, though hopefully that's still years away. Anything to watch for or aside from the colour are they essentially the same as a black & tan shepherd in terms of character / personality and the rest? |

They're a bit more timid to strangers...seems to be typical to many of them. Just not a trait that you see from shepherds. I will warn you...while dogs shed, they don't compare to what a shepherds shedding level is. I'll state that the white shepherd is on an entirely new level of that. The white hair is everywhere. Bring your dog in the car and open the windows, it's a snow storm. And saying that, you now have my user name. |
