There used to be an airline (GrandAir) that flew LAX to JFK. IIRC, they had a DC8 with only 75 seats which were all 1st class. I don't remember the cost, but I do know it wasn't cheap. Considering they promised to "not spill the champagne," they preformed pretty well on the climb-out.
