Many moons ago I asked some cops if the crime rate seems to go up on a full moon. They agreed that it did, to an extent. Is it true?

Sedan Clan,

Have you ever pulled over a car driving in an unsafe manner only to find out the driver is a law enforcement officer and you let him off as a courtesy by you really wanted to throw the book at him?

I haven't personally, but I know many who have. It sucks, especially if the person is deuce. Nowadays body cams have limited those courtesy situations when the violation is serious.

Sedan Clan,

Have you ever driven in your personal vehicle in an unsafe manner and gotten pulled over and the officer gives you a pass because you are a law enforcement officer? If yes, did you ever say, "give me the ticket, I deserved it!"

To be completely honest, all of my most reckless occurrences behind the wheel occurred in my 20's. I mostly straightened up my act when I decided to enter the field. I have been pulled over a few times for something minor and subsequently sent on my way. One time in particular I was on my way home after a 16-hour shift and was stuck at a light that just wouldn't cycle (…it was around midnight). I ended up running the light at about the same time a patrol deputy rounded the curve of an adjacent street. I knew he was going to conduct a stop, so I prepared accordingly. He approached my car, a brief interaction/conversation occurred where I presented my credentials and off I went.

As your counsel, you don't have to answer that.

Frankly that is how it should be. I fully admit I have never been a LEO, but cops covering for cops is a huge pile of crap.

Little stuff that may well get looked over for anyone I have no problem with. But the blue shield crap of enabling bad behavior among those who are supposed to enforce and uphold the law is completely unacceptable.

Possibly, but the police don't charge every person they stop. Cautions/warnings are often given. Should cops get a hall pass for criminal offences, no obviously not. But if they get caught speeding for example what is wrong with extending the courtesy of a warning?

Reminds me of how I actually creep in real life.

Ya know, I have a new pet peeve: driving at night without headlights/tail lights on. It is really, really annoying. I'm really beginning to crack down on it (….and it is an expensive ticket).

I've always been curious when I see officers riding their motorcycles home, or when I see them riding from a completely different city that is labeled on their vehicles. What is the catch?

I'm not exactly sure what your question is but I'll say this, we often left our jurisdiction on investigations, to execute warrants etc.

What I see a lot and if I was still working I'd be laying lots of charges for are people with their daytime running lights on (required in Canada on all new cars for years now). The headlights are on, and I think often the system has the dash lights on but not the full compliment of marker and tail lights. You'll see someone driving down the road at night with just headlights on and no other lights on the vehicle at all. Pretty dangerous in my view.

What about motorcycles? I have often seen them in what seems as commute vehicles. Not that I'm against it, because I can understand the parking situation, but are they allowed to be used in this manner?
