Well no new cacti. But major shock in the gun stores. They were practically stripped bare of inventory. Wow. Both were well stocked 2 months ago and now good luck finding basic self defense guns.

One had a very nice Daniel Defense AR15 - for $2500. And no it wasn't marked up for the current run. They do cost that. It was the only semi-auto AR style rifle there. I asked why it was still hanging around and thought they would say it was too high end. Nope. They just got it and put it on the wall that morning. He expects to sell it within a day.

Sorry if this is off topic. I didn't want to start a whole new thread about this and wanted to share.
Daniel Defense is a very nice AR, Wilson Combat is as well. They both cost way more than run of the mill AR rifles.

I don't have a DD in my safe but I do have a WC .458 Socom. It's become my primary deer rifle and does a perfect job in my area with hardly any shots greater than 200yrds.

Thats how my local shop is. Luckily they have ammo but the cases and walls are empty maybe 5-6 handguns total and a couple hunting shotguns

I was ready to buy a DD as my first rifle until I learned that there was zero DD dealers in NJ. Apparently DD decided it wasn't worth dealing with NJ. At that point I decided to buy a matched receiver from Ascend Armory and built one from scratch. I probably spent close to the same money and built a better rifle. I find firearms odd that way where it's less expensive to build a rifle yourself from components purchased separately. That was never the case in my experience in the world of cycling. It was always less expensive to buy a complete bike than build one yourself.

Its cheaper to build a better rifle than to buy one but the store bought one will still sell for more money even if its worse.

Hmmm, maybe you can build a better rifle than a WC or DD for less money but not a standard AR. Pre everything going nuts you could pick up a standard AR flat top for $599. The triggers I put in the lowers I build are $200-$300 alone and still require some other lower assembly parts. A typical lower build for me is around $650 plus the upper.

I want to add a modified Glock 17 to my collection. Any recommendation between TTI, ZEV or Agency?

I am leaning towards the Combat Master package from TTI.

Check out Faxon firearms. Theyre a local company that a couple friends work for and put out awesome custom glocks.

you can if you go bare bones like those $500-600 complete ARs.

Lower ~$50
Upper assembly complete w/ barrel and handguard can be had for ~$300
Mil-spec Lower Parts Kits ~$50

all the ARs ive posted cost less than $500 built before optics. I did buy some parts used though.

This has a lot to do with the 11% firearms excise tax imposed on complete rifles. If you buy the parts separately you don't have to pay that extra tax.

That may play a part. However as far as resale goes i think market dictates they would rather pay for a rifle that was put together by say daniel defense rather than put together by bimmerag(just using you as an example) just for the assurance of quality. Or a Ruger vs a PSA because Rugers name is familiar to them

I've been on the hunt for a Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW AR-15 with ZERO luck.

Love my DDM4 V7LW!

Would't mind assembling my own AR pistol.

Enrolled in a couple of classes today. Holster Draw and Urban Pistol 1 at Gun For Hire. They want me to bring knee pads, and 3 mags so I bought 1 more mag from HK Parts, and pads from 5.11. Also figured I'd get a proper belt, so I picked up one from Magpul. Should be fun.

I only carry striker fired guns, but I usually unload the gun and remove the chambered round every time I'm at home. I store it bedside holstered, with a full mag but slide locked to the rear. Technically guns at home should NOT be chambered, but YMMV.

We also do this while deployed overseas and never had any issues as described by the other member with the ammo, but again, YMMV.

Also, NEVER use a holster without a trigger guard.

Funny, that you ask this in relation to time of accidental discharge. My uncle, who is a detective, (I'd also like to add that none of my family acknowledges him as family - this is only being done for story sake) arrives home from work last week. His routine is that he carries his service weapon in his shoulder holder until he gets home. Before exiting his car, he places his service weapon in his EDC bag then enters the house. Last week, he goes to remove his service weapon from his shoulder holster and the weapon discharges while he is sitting upright in his car. Entrance wound on left side, just below the holster, exit wound just above left hip, entrance wound top of left thigh, exit wound underside of left leg just below the butt. Two entrance and two exit wounds with a single .45 round. Unsure as to how the weapon discharged aside from general knowledge of trigger being engaged; these details were left out.
Shoulder holsters are the worst holsters to use. Impossible to efficiently draw your gun without muzzling someone, or yourself. We NEVER recommend shoulder holsters to ANYONE.

Why would you say technically guns at home should not be chambered?

Also, hey, secret agent cool to have a shoulder holster. I never had one but ever since the Man from U.N.C.L.E. I've wanted one.

During my time in the detective office some of the old guys (look who's talking now) wore shoulder holsters. Mostly for comfort and it was the cool thing to do back in the day. They offer no security for the gun, it can easily be taken in a fight and when ever you draw the weapon you almost certainly will end up pointing it in an unsafe direction while acquiring your target.
