Well, in BMW’s eyes their M Performance vehicles, M-Lite vehicles, or whatever you want to call them are considered their M brand of cars. I don’t agree there, but their M division has a hand in their production unlike the older gen 340/440’s, 540’s, X5 40i, etc. regardless of the M sport packages these can be optioned with. They charge a premium now for those now standard features on the M performance cars. But the 540 and X3 M40/M50 are both geared towards two different demographics as well. 540 shines in luxury and space while the X3 M40/50 are pretty fun SAV’s for a customer looking for something fast that handles pretty dang well to haul their small family around in.

Call me old fashion but I need the builder site to click in options and look at the car. When will that be live?

Right- an x5 with better quality is there at 75,000.00

And an opening moonroof. Stinks everyone has an x5 now a days.

You can try it out in the UK configurator: https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configure/G45. It looks kinda similar to the current Cognac interior option.

I'm surprised that "ZMQ M Sport Professional Package" is not standard on the M50. Does anyone know how the car's external appearance will change if this is omitted?

Spot on. Another good comparison. Non m sport x5 decently appointed in the mid to upper 70s.

Well said. Agree with you. Having had a few of these m-lite versions myself they are nice upgrades from the base cars but reason I posted was I don’t think an m lite x3 should be the same price as an x5 or 540 with the exact same motor. Good marketing gimmick by bmw. Give credit where credit is due I guess.

IMHO, a non-opening sunroof means no rattles -- or at least fewer of them.

My MY19 M40i had to be re-worked in the dealership when new to solve for an annoying rattle.

FWIW, I'm liking the M50 as a replacement for my MY19 M40i -- which has been a _bitchin'_ car. After six years and 45K miles, I still love driving it.

I'm looking forward to iDrive that doesn't think CarPlay is a separate system and I'm _not_ looking forward to opening the tailgate by reaching so low. (How did they get the idea that the trunk release belongs just above the rear bumper?)

As to price, I paid about $65K for my loaded MY19 M40i. A quick calculation has me at about $71K for an M50 in Alpine White. So, after trade-in, maybe $40K out of pocket for a new one.

That's fine by me.

Has anyone else noticed that HUD appears to be missing? Or is it not a thing anymore with idrvie9?

The HUD seems to be part of Live Cockpit Pro, which is in the Premium Package. At least according to the UK configurator:

Seems that option 6U3 includes Heads Up display when you look across the board at other iDrive 8 and up vehicles.

I’m wondering if there’s any truth to what I heard about acoustic glass is not breakable as easy as regular glass could that be the reason they’re not using it you were in a wreck went into the water couldn’t get out

Acoustic side glass is more expensive, that’s why it’s missing on this model.

BMW fit it on other models in different regions. Maybe it’s a US thing, like how BMW kill the anti dazzle matrix hi beam headlight feature in the US market. The G01 has always had acoustics front side glass here.

The odd thing is that the X2 M35i gets acoustic glass as standard yet it's not available on the 2025 X3 or the current X5.

The current X5 can have acoustic side glass, just depends on the region. Here it’s an option across the X5 range -

The power to weight ratio on the current gen M5 is much better than this XM in an overweight sedan body. Looks like the G90 was the last of the good ones. RIP nimble, dynamic & agile super sedan...

You guys are comparing this car to an X5, when the real comparison should be to the 2024 X3 xDrive30i and M40i. The X5 will be higher quality car in every way, always has been.

When you line up “basic” builds to match equipment as closely as possible, the pricing is actually quite good for what will inevitably be a higher quality car than the 2024 model.

On the xDrive30i, your price actually goes DOWN $2400

See here: https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...ttvx6f/summary

On the M50i, your price only goes up $300, most of which is contributed to the higher destination charge on all 2025 models.

See here: https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...tjok27/summary

As an independent broker who will have great deals on these off the bat, I look forward to delivering a ton of them. And hopefully hear from many of you

What’s really nice too is this new id9 supposedly is going to be able to upgrade to 10, id11.

Buying it now- you have a fresh design for about 7 years.

For 40,000- for you that represents a great deal swapping now.

lol that’s a typo. It’s 285 for rear but I like what they did here. Cannot stand the skinny tires on current G01 19 inch wheels

I have the G01 LCI and the MSRP on the closest G45 build is now £16k more for less. That’s for a car with features you don’t get anymore, such as M Sports seats, and I’m not sure how you define “inevitably higher quality” based on reviewer comments on disappointing quality plastics mentioned in some up close reviews lol.

I hope to see the G45 in person early July, and I appreciate people are willing it to be better (especially those that want to sell it lol), despite the generally disappointing design, and initial interior quality feedback.
