My only is guess is they do this to expedite the situation, write the ticket and be on their way.

I have lost count how many times a cop has told me this and it turned out to be false.

I was caught for 52 in a 25, and I was doing 52. The officer did not make it up like so many claim. He told me they would be lenient. I went to court and they changed it to 30 in a 25. It was zero points, I pulled my driving record 35 days later, and 13 mos. Later. It was not on my driving abstract.

Here is why it matters. In many states, you cannot get an insurance surcharge on your first infraction. Ah, but wouldn't you know insurance is aware of that? So rather than surcharge you, they remove your good driver discount, which still means you pay more.

Points are not for insurance, they are for dmv and when to suspend your license.

When they walk to the car, I roll down a window and start singing what you gona do, what you gona do when they come for you...

If nothing else works, I pull out my both licenses and the Finn one always gets me off. "Is it true you guys have to train and have a training license for two years before you get a full one?"

Whining in pointless. Buy a flashy car and they will get interested. You either face the music, get radar detector or shut up and play by the rules.
