Who needs it, it's fun to do financially irresponsible things. I'll finish this thought in a minute, gotta go get my lotto tickets before the store closes.

How many hobbies do you need to keep yourself occupied for 30 years mate? I don't play golf, that was just an example. Like I said, couldn't do it. I wouldn't feel challenged by any means.

I got puked on today, and I was told off by a seven year old who wanted it to be clear I did not do good, my four year old can apparently read, and I never knew, and personal best: "Mother, you do know this is the second time this week we are eating junk food? Do try to be more aware of nutritional values".
I'd say that today I'm SO BLOODY READY TO RETIRE, OR TO GET A REAL JOB.

"Now, Mother, you are supposed to keep track of these things. I know we are never sick, but what if this was a bad situation? You would be screwed now" I think that last one kind of saved her ass. I had to turn away laughing because a little demon version of me laid down the law, and then says that...

Been trying that myself for a while now. They keep screwing up the draws. (just to be clear: the problem sure as hell aint on my end; I'm buying tickets with the right numbers, but they keep drawing the wrong numbers at the other end. Dumbasses! )

$9million after taxes.
I've thought about this long and hard. Here's the breakdown. $1mil for me $1mil for my wife $1mil on a house $1mil to share $100k for the next 50yrs not including interest on $4mil in the bank. I can live quite comfortably in that and still do what I want, when I want. |

I'm married to a CPA, i don't have to think about retirement. She thinks about it enough for the both of us. We save/invest more than the national average, but still have the time and means to travel at least 4 weeks a year. i would say that's a pretty decent balance.

My dad's 62 and I think he's supposed to be retiring at 65 but ofcourse I am praying they will keep him longer.. he's the type that should probably work until he drops dead because he would make life hell for his family if he had nothing to do.
His friends in government jobs are forced to retire at 55 or 60 and good thing they have grandkids to take care of.. i really don't know what you do with all that time. A stable career with a nice pension is a thing of the past, though. This generation, unless they make alot for themselves, might NEED to keep working if they haven't been living below their means for a long time. |

Have a 401k through my job and a personal roth IRA. Anyone on here saying they dont save for retirement will be kicking themselves later. Of course, these people are probably internet millionaires with so much money they dont know what to do with it.

I don't really know how much I would require, because I'm sure by then, the amount of money I'll need is going to be much more than say people who are retiring now. Retirement is one thing I really haven't dug into to learn more about unfortunately. |

When discussing retirement, it should be viewed as part of any sound financial planning. No one argues the importance of an emergency fund. Retirement savings should also be viewed in the same light no matter how small. Plus the earlier you start, the less you have to put in each month which counters those that feel saving for retirement takes away from what you can enjoy today.
There was also a statement about what good is it to save for retirement if you might not be alive to enjoy it. I sincerely hope no one has to ever be faced with this situation while still being alive. You don't know the amount of stress and emotional baggage you have to endure when you are in a situation when you are faced with your own mortality. I recently was in this situation with my cancer diagnosis. I'm on the other side of that nightmare right now but I don't know if it'll come back or not. Has it stopped me from saving? No. At this point, I have to also worry about the well being of my family too even if I'm not around to enjoy the savings I worked so hard for. |

Shit, if I'm about to die, and I'm sitting on a stack of retirement funds, I'm going to get a Kilo of cocaine, a bunch of strippers, and host the best party of my life.

I enjoy my job, the stress level here is very very low. The pay is descent. I look forward to going to work everyday. However, i wouldn't mind retiring early. I'm currently 31yrs, i'm putting money aside in 401k plus my company has a profit sharing benefit and those checks are fat. The reason i would want to retire early is because of the saying "If you can't build your dream, some else will hire you to build theirs". I work for a small private company owned by a Dad and his son, I literately make them millions each year. Although i don't mind helping their company but imagine how much i could make if i invested all that time on myself. Which is what i'm doing now, i work during the day at my job to make money to pay bills, eat food, save some and put the rest towards my business that at work on at night. I want to work on my own dreams. I pray to God everyday and i work hard at it.

I started saving/planning for retirement at age 22. I'm 25 now and feel I don't have nearly as much saved as I thought I would. With my 401k, Roth IRA, several bonds, a CD, and a savings account I think I'll have to be working for the rest of my life. Although, I have a very expensive taste. My wants generally exceed my income, so I work hard and budget to make that income happen to obtain my want. Which is exactly how I got my 1er two years ago on November 19th.

i have a hard time giving people my money to manage it for me. i'm very paranoid and feel like it might get pissed away. even with large investment firms. it's like i'm an effing crazy person at times.
