I had a 2003 BMW M3 SMG that I sold because of the hard ride and bought a 2005 Audi.Loved the Audi but then got the middle age bug and bought a C6 2006. I loved the way the C6 drove, MPG was great but the interior fit and finish sucked. My car listed for $59,000 I got it though a friend of mine tat is the cadi rep for GM for GMI price. Around $45,000 loaded a year later it was worth 39K wholesale and now about $33,000. Take about lousy resale. Just think if I did not get it for GMI. I now have a 335Conv and I am back to German. Once you have driven a German car you will not go back to anything else. The vett was nice for $45K but not for $59,000. Yes it is fast and handles great but overall experience is I love my BMW I liked my vett. If you have a few gold chains and are single get the vett if you want resale, fit and finish the BMW. Oh the Audi was tops in Fit and Finish. Audi or BMW well it's a tie but I love the looks of the BMW conv and love the interior of the Audi

I bought a 335i coupe, sports ,6mt my friend bought a 2008 vette cov't, 6mt, so I can compare the two for you. Maybe this will help you.
In our bicycle club, everyone who knows cars loves the BMW. Everyone else thinks the vette is a cool car. |

Nope - one of these things is not like the other! I needed the back seat and something more practical than the vette. My brother inlaw had one (traded it for a cts-v) and it was fast, but other than that it was a clunky bag of bricks with an absolutely crap fit and finish (the new interior is supposed to be better now) and it is an American car - after the last American car I had I vowed to never buy one again!

Yes, I looked at the '08 C6 coupe, and even test drove one.
All I can say is that the vette is in a completely different league, but the need of another set of seats was the deal breaker. I even had a deposit on one....but I backed out realizing that I will buy a corvette when I am older and I dont need the car seat anymore By the time I am ready for a vette, I hope they fix those seats, and make them more supportive and not so flexing...

I test drove the vette three times before I ordered my 328. It wasn't about power or status for me. I have a '77 vette (ok, it is the dog of the vettes but it is mine). I wanted the vette to work for me but it doesn't. The interior is cramped. The seats are less comfortable. I liked the heads-up display. I liked the quietness of the vert in contrast to my ancient one. I keep cars 10+ years generally. I could NOT see myself driving that long term.
If I was a racer or speed-demon, it might be a different story. For my purposes, the 328 meets or exceeds my needs for a vehicle. And the fact that I can get winter tires and drive more days with the 328 than I possibly could with the vette. At least in the E93, there is the backseat to put my purse on! |

I've owned a few Vettes and my experience is that it is not easy to get a deal. Most Vette dealers will go maybe $1000 below MSRP. I think Kerbeck in NJ will go $1500 and they are the largest by volume Vette dealer in the world.
The mid-life crisis moniker may have been the case way back when but if you venture over to Corvetteforum you will find that most C5/C6 owners seem to be in their late 20s to early 40s. It is a while since I have been there though. I personally know three owners of C6s. They are 32, 37 and 38. The older folks tend to buy the used, last model cycle IMO. As for resale, my father-in-law's 2000 C5 new was 46K. He sold it in 2005 for $36K. Granted it was pristine and only had 11000 miles on it but I think that is pretty good.

On the test drive, that thing rattled, squeaked and creaked and was full of cheap fisher price type plastic. Not very well built, not to mention I would really have to modify my golf bag to get it in the vehicle, there is barely room for a bag of groceries in that thing.

great stats for performance and I think they look nice, I just can't get excited when I see a vette anymore for some reason though. I know they are fast and a great value, I just am not interested in them.

I forgot ALL the reasons, but my friend just bought a Vette after looking at the A5 and the E93. He wanted to trade his '04 S4 he had for a 'vert. I thought he was wrong in general, (what a surprise), but he said the BMW wouldn't fit golf clubs but the Vette would. He loves old Vettes, so that obviously played a part.

Talk about different classes of cars! Haha. The Vette is a sweet car but like someone else said I wanted the service of BMW so I comprimised... (true) sports (imitation) luxury.

Needed a back seat, otherwise i'd have purchased one.
IMO, the sterotype of BMW owners is as bad as the one for Chevy owners. I'm really surprised at how much influence external factors play in many of the opinions of people here. |
