This is nice but BMW is too late and I'm sure these will be much too expensive. There are several tow hook mounts for our cars and a couple of good headrest mounts and DIY solutions. If BMW wanted to give me one to try however I wouldn't hesitate.

My BMS GoPro tow mount works well. For interior I just use the GoPro suction cups. Not interested in a dealer one unless they cost about the same.

gopro has huge government contracts and also the discovery networks and also NFL and other sports. I'm sure they will be fine. Their stock was inflated in price based on speculation of where it will go.. it has since corrected itself to a normal level and we'll see growth in the stock going forward as they grow their market and contracts. There is a reason they put contour out of business and the alternative cams (sony, garmin, actionshot, etc..) havent taken anything away from them

there are already 3rd party companies that make these mounts and the suction cup mount will work up to 150mph (outside the car). There is no point in buying these mounts from bmw..

GoPro might have it's issues but .....

However, for Apple AAPL -1.50% , getting a patent for a video camera is a far cry from actually producing one and putting it on sale. Companies often patent ideas they never pursue commercially.

Look how long it's taken Apple to get their watch in customers hands. They haven't even publicly announced a GoPro like device (yet).

Very cool, and I love how the gopro is integrated though the Idrive and suff, but id stick to getting my own mounts. It will be way cheaper this way.

very well could be, however now that they are apart of many sporting events, they have the potential to do something similar along the lines of RedBull. Not necessarily based on camera sales, but the brand they are creating.

This will only maybe work if they make the cameras A LOT better than they make the Iphones.

I disagree, I actually think go pro hasn't even peaked yet and their brand will be growing strong this year.
9 months is pretty short. I see them being around for at least another 5 years.

They have great marketing and their name is the first to come to mind when it comes to filming anything action/outdoor related. Viral videos, deals like the NHL agreement to put gopros on players during games and anyone that wants to record something outside automatically thinks, "should I get a gopro?" And they consistently come in 1st in comparisons/reviews

I do think their products are over priced, or they at least need a better entry level model then what they offer currently, and I think there's room in that market for a big player like Apple to come in and push their weight around, some have tried but it's been a half hearted/ failed attempt. That market is ready for a big #2 player to go against gopro

Apple does have the resources and technology to put out a killer outdoor cam, but I see them doing it in 3-4 years at least. And I think Apple's camera will be more of an upscale camera, compared to gopro's "everyman" brand image. Apple current image is of, design, beauty, class, etc. even their iwatch is only slightly marketed towards sports, sweat, running, outdoor.
So for Apple to create a camera and aim it towards rugged, outdoor, drop it from a plane, feed it to a shark, put it on your dogs back, etc, it'll feel very unnatural, people associate gopro for those types of things.

If gopro can stay agile, respond quickly to the market, and be aware of what people want, I think they stand a good chance of sticking around.

This is all just my opinion

That's the most ridiculous assumption I've ever seen on this forum. And as a shareholder of both companies I have to say the link you provided to the Fortune article is meaningless. Apple is awarded with new patents on a daily basis for things it has no intention in bringing to market and in the event that they would bring a product to market to compete with GoPro, that would not spell inevitable doom for the company. The company is in healthy standing and will most likely be around for a long time.

Who needs them? The aftermarket GP mounts have been out for awhile from various manufacturers. Lil late to the party.

I think this is cool. GoPro mounts are already expensive, don't know how much worse it could be. Some of the aftermarket stuff is iffy to begin with, would rather have quality/durability over price.

hardly news of gopro dying. did you read the article? gopro is the market lead in action cam/wearable sports cam.

and if we are being all apple fanboi about it...then they will also double the price in true apple fashion.

Apple, with its huge base of customers and successful track record in consumer electronics, would make for a huge new rival to GoPro. In the past few years, GoPro has emerged as a powerhouse in video cameras and a huge business that is on track for more than a $1 billion in revenue for 2014.

However, for Apple AAPL 0.66% , getting a patent for a video camera is a far cry from actually producing one and putting it on sale. Companies often patent ideas they never pursue commercially.

Some of this stuff is beyond me, I just like to see what's out there.

I wouldn't get myself. I tend to lose some of the bolts+screws for my suction cup and mounts.... and all I do is go to my local Best Buy and buy a new piece for cheap.

I'm assuming it will be a headache trying to replace missing pieces and also not sure if they'll have a quick turnaround or prompt service

Check with your local dealer(Zentrum). I know some zentrum's already received an initial batch of mounts. A friend of mine checked with his Stuttgart dealer. But he said they returned it bc they thought filming cars in DE is not allowed. It IS allowed... but just not as evidence in a German court.

So... check with your local dealer... they might already have them.
