It really isn't. To tell you the truth, like it says online, you will adapt to the keyboard. And now (4 days later) i type with both hands using my thumb and i MIGHT make a mistake... MIGHT...
I'm getting faster on typing and sometimes i feel like the keyboard knows what i want to type because i type fast and it's very acurate. But to each their own. I think iphone is a great phone. AT&T for me is great where i am and where i go.

I'm waiting on 3g. Edge is slow as molasses.

there is rumer about 3G being available but that will also drain the battery life of the phone. Might make you double think about browsing the internet if you want to make phone calls later.
I don't find EDGE being a problem. I think it's ok. I think everyone is so used to DSL, Cable, T1, T3 that we forget how it used to be in the past with the 56k dial up. LOL Don't get me wrong companies have to compete, but it's apple's first phone. Nobody has got it down packed, and for being their first phone production, they are doing a great job! In 2-3 years, i'll look into a new phone, hopefully apple will come out with a newer version. But by then, they will continue to be ahead of the game in terms of software. you see if all over they place with people trying to duplicate the iphone. Whether it's other companies own verision, or identical with added features. That's good thing a lot of companies want to "clone" it. Maybe in the near future apple/at&t will do 3G but apple might find a way to make the battery last double with that.
