Not just BMWs.
Most cars in Germany are debadged (from Audi to Citroen) If you care, it is always easy enough to figure out what the car is from the noise (diesel) or looks (tailpipes, etc) Varies a lot in other countries. Less of a thing in France/UK.

I guess he is exaggerating a bit, lowest 5 is the 150hp 518d and smallest BMW engine currently is I believe the 214d AT with 95hp.
And as we in europe have to pay way more for fuel and emission taxes than in the US, a lot of people buy the most efficient engines like those diesels. Especially if they live in a big city, then it doesn't matter if there is a V8 or a 95hp diesel under the hood while they are always stuck in traffic ![]() |

![]() Btw. BMW thinks 0.5l per cylinder is the perfect size, so that would be a 305i with quad turbo, or going by the recent naming convention a M305i ![]() |

I have never seen that in the UK. Mind you, we have an extreme shortage of X3's over here. At present they are in such short supply that our local dealer has not got a demo car.

So on the german 1er forums or whatever, what is the 'cool' thing to do? Debadge or badge?
On here the cool thing to do is debadge because everyone else has badges, maybe over there the cool thing to do is badge because everyone is debadged? |

Most Europeans don't do things because it's cool or what others are doing etc. It tends to be individual sort of thing, mainly as it makes the car look tidy. Unless someone is 17, I don't think they go 'oh I will do this 'cos I will look cool' |

I remain unconvinced that Euro's are more demure about their wealth.
It's all about not showing off the fact that I'm not rich enough to not be troubled by displacement taxes.

I really wish more people in the US would debadge their cars, especially the X-Drive badge which looks freakin' terrible and very cheap. Maybe it's just me, but I swear some of the Xdrive badges aren't even on the vehicle squarley, they crooked sometimes. |
