They are sweet looking cars, especially the earlier ones (Gen 1). I probably wouldn't be able to truly appreciate it unless it's a restomod or pro touring. Who wants to adjust carbs when the temps change and start a car using choke or deal with points distributors.... Damn. |

I rebuilt a 1970 GTO when I was 15, (20 some years ago) and hope someday to purchase another. Was it a great handling car, no. Stop good? No. Go like stink in a straight line, yes Make great sounds and smells, yes! Ultimate in my book for what it was built for.

At one point, I even tried to understand the logic by comparing stats against the 2002. I will admit that the 2002 was great in its contemporary setting and still has its charm today. However, I don't give it much more contemporary kudos beyond nostalgia and perhaps "feel". My point was not to discount the 1st and 2nd Gen GTOs. They indeed had their place in history. In fact, I DO think it's a cool car. Otherwise, why would I even bother driving it? I just didn't want to hear any guys chime in and pull a "2002". I hope people coming into this read take time to read instead of flaming. |

I owned a 1966 GTO. 389, Tri-Power, 4-Speed, and 3.9 posi rear gearing. It would lay down two strips of rubber with ease and "chirp" the "wide oval" tires up through the gears. It was a straight line terror for its time.
