From Rotten Tomatoes:
CRITICS CONSENSUS Decades after its predecessor joked about the fine line between love and nausea, Coming 2 America reminds audiences that there's an equally fine line between sequel and retread. |

It was a good time. Not as funny as the first...never was going to be. But I like they brought back as much of the origincal cast they could, had nods to the older movie & Trading Places. It was fun in a time where there is so much bullshit & hate in the world...it was a good escape

The family and I just finished watching it and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
The first is a Legendary Movie so obviously it would be difficult to live up to it. But still very entertaining to us. |

I watched it Saturday (wife fell asleep lol). I thought it was pretty good for a 35yr old sequel. I also never thought it would live up to the original, so not setting high expectations helped.
It definitely had some entertaining and laugh out loud moments, and a couple jokes that the PC police will get angry about, so that was nice to see/hear. I wouldn't rate it as low as people have been, but it was definitely better than expected. Wasn't an Anchorman 2 or something

This movie was absolutely awful. We made it about 30-40 minutes in before I just couldn't do it anymore. The first rule of a comedy should be that it needs to be funny, this was not. We ended up watching the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which was awful in it's own right, but we actually made it to the end of that.
Both movies left us feeling old and coming to the realization that Hollywood has lost it's way. There was a scene in Jay and Silent Bob where Jason Lee is talking about the difference between a remake, a reboot and sequel. I'm at work and can't access the clip on youtube, but it fit's nicely in conjunction with this sequel that ruins the original. |

Case in point, I drive an IS 350. Lots of people complain about the lack of an update in the infotainment system, continuing to use the same motor over and over and Lexus not updating the body style (very much) or the interior. Will Lexus still sell IS's? Of course. Are the Lexus IS fans happy with the same played out bullshit after all the years? My issue with Hollywood is the same issue I seem to have with everything these days. We market and mass produce shit /garbage in an attempt to profit from it. People will buy or watch anything you put in front of them. Ask the people who continue to shell out money for the latest iPhone that was soooo much different than the last one they just bought. Put it in front of their faces, build the hype, make a minor change, market the hell out of it and it will fly off the shelves whether the public wants it or not. |

We watched it last night. We had turned on the TV & Coming to America was on and this thread reminded me that there was a 2 out. My husband takes forever to find something to watch so the simple fact I could put in on and make it easy was a win for me. It's wasn't that bad. I've seen worse.

Didn't have to read the reviews or watch the trailer, I knew it would suck. The premise of the movie alone should have been obvious that it would not be any good.
