That makes sense! Guess it’s 6 in one, half dozen in the other. I was wondering if maybe Fahrenheit was easier to adapt to than Celsius as metric is much easier than standard. Maybe not!

I don't think either one is easier or harder to adapt to - just what you're used to. I was already used to miles/kilometers etc. but the one that still to this day I cannot remember is fluid ounces. Every time I order something and they ask if I want the 12 or the 20 I cannot for the life of me remember how big that is, even after 10 years.

See I don't really agree with that. I don't feel in numbers, and 0F is *WAYYYY* too cold to be part of the how humans feel scale.

They're probably talking about just the 50 to 100 part of Fahrenheit? Just really doesn't make any sense.

Yes - Celsius is entirely based around water at sea level - 0 is freezing, 100 is boiling, but Fahrenheit seems more arbitrary and random - 0 is really damned cold, 32 is freezing, 100 is hot, and boiling is 212.

Not sure either one is more "how humans feel" personally. Not that I'm against Fahrenheit, I just don't feel that's a convincing argument at all.

NW Harris Cty (Houston) forecast. Look at the Mon overnight low! This is especially strange as the extreme cold seems to not be moving eastward as usual. I almost don't believe it.

I'm in Harris County too. Covered a lot of plants and all pipes but I highly doubt it'll help with those temps.

Yeah - I grew up with Celcius but grew used to F. I don't know how objectively cold it is now, but 52F outside now tells me it's time for a vest, maybe a light jacket if it's windy.

The same thing applies to us dumb Americans when learning metric temperatures. I came up with the rule of fives:

15C - 25C = comfortable

5C - 15C = sweater weather

-5C - 5C = coat weather

-15C - -5C = winter/hockey weather

-15C or lower = freaking cold


25C - 35C = warm

35C or greater = freaking hot!

Keep me in 15C weather year-round and I'll be happy....

Same here, used to convert everything: in to cm, acres to ha, lbs to kgs, etc.

When I was on the Underwater Recovery Team we went to Quebec City for ice dive training with the Canadian Navy, USN, and Royal Navy. It was -40, that was just an unpleasant 10 day course.

There were some funny moments. The USN guys were from Norfolk so they were a little shocked as were the Royal Navy guys. The folks in the military know how to swear. It was funny, all the military divers were young, in their 20's. I was the youngest guy on our police team at 39.
