Based on the position of the other cars on track versus the lines the Tesla was taking this seems to be the case. A short clip of it passing no problem with others moving out of the way. Not a fair vid by any means, great title though...got my attention.

I too like making videos of how much faster my car is than those that cost 10x as much when those cars are on a cool down lap and driven by people who don't seem to have much experience.

All electric performance cars will be a force to be recogned with, not just Tesla's.
Up next HUD showing ideal driving line, braking point, cornering speed... Up next AI driving aids... It's progress, it's all good but I'm dreaming of cruisin' in a 200hp NC with ITB's on some twisty roads, enjoying driving as it used to be. I must be getting old |

I too can out lap people with my heavy 635csi because I don't lift where they do and I accelerate earlier because I know the track and my car's behavior. Same with my favorite on ramp, It is a long straight then a 360 downhill, then a long straight. I know that I am faster than 98% of the drivers no matter the car, because I have been driving it the last 15 years with many different cars in all kind of conditions. Experience is a stubborn thing.

I would actually really like to get behind the wheel (sorry, "Yoke") of a Plaid and see how they've improved the car. That being said Tesla is stupidly forcing their version of the future on their customers (once again) as the Yoke is the only steering wheel available. It amazes me that it passed the NHTSA as it looks seriously annoying. A solution for a problem that never existed.

When does, or did, Tesla announce development of a future Indy 500 entry?

https://presse.porsche.de/prod/press...l=modelle-news Tesla: no official times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...eife_lap_times Only did 1 lap here, but the battery pack started to cut power due to overheating after 7 minutes and the brakes were shot. After 1 lap. "Dangerously bad brakes and suspension" as Misha describes. To be fair, a stock Taycan is not going to last all day on a track, but it's certainly better than any Tesla when it comes to sustained performance and brakes. 26 launches (0-200 kmph/124 mph) in a row and the difference was only 0.8s between the best and worst times (source below). A Tesla can barely launch 2 times in a row. While the Taycan has an advantage in drag races due to the 2-speed gearbox, it's also down on power and weighs more. But the key insight here is the Taycan trapped 130.02, 129.53, and 129.99 while the Model S did 128.64, 126.54, and 125.81. Anything you read about Tesla track performance that's favorable, especially over a Taycan, is complete bullshit. Every instance is a pro driver in a heavily modified car running slicks vs a 1st time driver on all-seasons. Stock for stock, there is no comparison. There's a reason only Porsche has an official time despite getting into the EV game much later. And 'they always publish lap times for their cars and Tesla doesn't care' isn't a fair statement either. Tesla has certainly tried. I wouldn't be shocked if they do manage to beat the Taycan's time from 2019, but remember to give Porsche a month or two to see if they can reclaim the record. Quote:
The Taycan did 3,425 km (2,128 miles) in 24 hours with charging stops. https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019...ife-18440.html

That's an S Performance in the video. The S Plaid started being delivered very recently. It's much faster in the quarter mile, but that wasn't the point I was making. An overall comparison between the Turbo S and the S Plaid is a different topic.

I wouldn't dismiss the tri-motor Tesla too quickly.. the acceleration of that car is on par with the P1/Senna. Probably accelerates faster out of the hole as well.
It's really not a fair test though as the unplugged performance version strips out the interior, runs slicks, cage, etc.. Potential is there though and at a fraction of the cost of a P1/Senna for sure. |

It's a nice feat and pretty awesome for a 4dr ev, but the experience of a super/hyper car can't be matched that's for sure. |

Interesting article which goes through the process of how to get the best time, like all Tesla's, a pretty long time to prepare the car.
https://www.motortrend.com/cars/tesl...-wheel-review/ Also interesting article that talks about how frustrating the steering is. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/tesl...-wheel-review/ |

plaid is most definitely serious. motortrend just had it beat the Senna in the 0-100-0 test.
ran a 9.3 @ 147... unprepped surface. just crazy. fastest 1/4 mile car in the world is a 5 seater for $140k.
