This is great news, makes my M3 that much more special. The only M3 to have a high rev NA V8, man this might become a collector's item. But to those who have not been able to enjoy the S65, here is what you are missing: Throttle response. Enjoy your laggy turbos! LOL

Sorry, but your N/A M3's engine will soon be replaced by an F/I engine; just trade up when that happens, and you'll be singing a different tune so to speak.

+1. FI cars are going to inherently have more problems and way more post warranty issues. Burned up turbos at 60-70k mi. Just wait. There will be whistling turbos with burned out bearings all over the place. They may make less CO2 but the long term costs are gonna shock the shit out of some people. 2 more years and the time bombs will start going off. NA forever |

Also your opinion of most modern FI engine is not an accurate one, the lag is not an issue anymore, though there are still some exception. I know it's a bit out of the league of the M3 engine in terms of power & torque but if you got a drive in the new RS6 I reckon you would swiftly be won over to the dark side. The only problem I see with turbo engines especially is when you chose to tune them for much greater output than stock, than this lag you talk about can become an annoyance. |

I think its a good move to go to FI. Because really to get any real performance gains out of an M motor is to go FI anyway. I had an e46 M3 and you could put every possible bolt on they ever created with software and you may net maybe 30 more hp. FI is the only way your gonna have a fast car with decent mpg.

While a few people are going to be disappointed, I think this makes some sense from the point-of-view of business executives and consumers looking for a mixture of economy and performance. BMW execs realize that the potential benefits of improved fuel economy (the direction the rest of the world is moving) and turbo enthusiasts outweigh criticism from a much smaller group of NA purists.
Case-in-point. Initially I was very interested in the 2008 M3 coupe when it was released until I found out it was an 8 cylinder 1. Then discovering it had extremely poor gas mileage 2. Then noticing it had been slapped with an ugly gas guzzler tax 3. Then test driving it and saying to my myself "This thing feels like a big Camaro" 4. Completely different from the feel of the 2006 M3 with the competition package I test drove which had me drooling. If BMW had released the 2008 M3 in a six cylinder I probably would have gone there. As it stands I'm extremely happy with my 2007 335i. The 335 just seemed like the smartest choice. |

i'm actually a fan of powerful SUVs and what not....
have guys ever driven a G65 amg or an ML65 amg? that shit hauls!! i personally think it's a fun drive but i agree that the exclusivity would be diminished, but it's not like "just anyone" can simply walk in and buy one of them...they're not gonna be cheap... |

Cool. I woke up early this morning to go out to the stores to go get myself an ///M toothbrush, bicycle, Plasma TV, and some ///M lingerie for my woman. I love that BMW makes everything now.

Correction: the bigger profit margin turbo era. Build cheap(er)...sell high(er). If only the buying public was smart enough to understand this is a downfall.

Zero surprise. Oil prices spiked and it's becoming more of a political issue, BMW AG has to think ahead and address regulatory issues and market reality.
